M&A / Strategic Activity
Recent acquisitions, partnerships, deployments, and ecosystem developments shaping the Cryogenic Electronics Market:

IBM - Acquisition of HRL Laboratories
In August 2026, IBM completed its acquisition of HRL Laboratories, bringing together expertise in quantum computing, quantum sensing, materials science, cryogenics, control electronics, packaging, and interconnects. HRL's silicon-spin qubit capabilities complement IBM's superconducting-qubit program and give IBM additional in-house capabilities across the cryogenic hardware stack.

IBM - Modular cryogenic architecture for large-scale quantum systems
In August 2026, IBM demonstrated two connected cryogenic modules operating below 15 mK. The modular architecture is designed to link hundreds of quantum chips and provides up to 12 times more wiring space than the cryogenic enclosure used in IBM's widely deployed systems. IBM plans to use L-couplers to connect processors and expand the architecture toward systems containing thousands of qubits per cryogenic module.

Oxford Instruments - Cryogenic infrastructure for OQC's Quantum-AI Data Centre
Oxford Instruments NanoScience supplied its ProteoxLX dilution refrigerator for Oxford Quantum Circuits' Quantum-AI Data Centre in New York. The facility combines quantum computing with classical AI infrastructure, representing a move toward deploying cryogenic quantum hardware within data-centre environments rather than limiting it to conventional laboratory installations.

Keysight Technologies - Singapore quantum ecosystem collaboration
Keysight entered a collaboration with Singapore's quantum research ecosystem covering quantum processor design, control, qubit fabrication characterisation, and cryogenic measurement. The programme uses Keysight's Quantum Control Systems and measurement hardware to support development of scalable quantum architectures.

imec - SPINS semiconductor quantum pilot line
In April 2026, imec announced the launch of the EU-supported SPINS semiconductor-based quantum pilot line. The programme targets Ge/GeSi quantum technologies on 300-mm wafers and builds on imec's work in EUV-fabricated silicon quantum-dot devices and scalable cryogenic control technologies. It also connects with the Chips JU Arctic project, which is developing cryogenic ICT microsystems and control technology for quantum processors.

New Product / Technology Launches & Deployments
Recent product introductions and real-world deployments in cryogenic electronics:

Bluefors - Higher-capacity dilution refrigerator specifications
In March 2026, Bluefors increased the guaranteed cooling-power specifications of its dilution refrigerator portfolio. The company linked the additional capacity directly to larger experiments, more measurement infrastructure and higher-power cryogenic devices, particularly as quantum laboratories increase qubit counts and channel density.

Bluefors - Ultra-Compact LD cryogenic platform
Bluefors introduced its Ultra-Compact LD system as an integrated dilution-refrigerator platform combining the cryostat, gas-handling system and pulse-tube compressor in a compact laboratory configuration. The platform provides less than 10 mK base-temperature capability while retaining space for measurement electronics, targeting laboratories that need higher integration without a large conventional cryogenic installation.

Oxford Instruments - ProteoxQX large-scale dilution refrigerators
Oxford Instruments installed the first two of its large modular ProteoxQX dilution refrigerators in April 2025. The systems were designed specifically to overcome experimental-volume and wiring limitations encountered as quantum processors scale to larger qubit counts.

At ISSCC 2026, IBM reported a 16-channel cryo-CMOS flux-control ASIC fabricated in 14-nm FinFET technology. The device consumes less than 7 mW per channel and demonstrated two-qubit gate errors as low as 0.0017, showing how conventional semiconductor processes are being adapted for cryogenic quantum-control workloads.

Cryogenic electronics operating across wider temperature ranges
IBM also demonstrated a cryo-CMOS current reference operating from 5.6 K to 100 K in 14-nm FinFET technology. The work addresses one of the less visible challenges in cryogenic electronics: creating stable reference circuits whose electrical characteristics remain predictable as temperature changes substantially inside a cryogenic system.

Low-power RF multiplexing and cryogenic control
imec is developing cryo-CMOS circuits for qubit control at temperatures ranging from 4 K down toward millikelvin conditions. Its 2026 research programme includes an ultra-low-power cryo-CMOS RF multiplexer, aimed at reducing the number of interconnects required between room-temperature electronics and quantum devices.
