The recognition arrived the same month that marketing agency Ten Speed published research showing AI tools citing B2B vendors at the buyer evaluation stage draw 88.3% of their sources from pages a company controls.

Nelson Brassell, the Ten Speed researcher who wrote the study, questioned whether Reddit deserves the investment it has attracted. "The question we consistently ask is whether Reddit is the right place for B2B marketing teams to invest," he wrote, adding that the overall citation share does not support treating it as a priority at this stage of the funnel.

Comparison-format content proved the most efficient category. It made up about 20% of the prompt set but produced roughly 27% of citations, a 1.33-times return.

The methodology drew scrutiny before publication. Search Engine Journal confirmed with Ten Speed that the correct prompt count is 170, correcting a visual in the report that said 220, an error that would have shifted every percentage. Ten Speed also declined to say how many distinct client brands sat behind the 7,387 citations, citing confidentiality. The study therefore describes a narrow slice of B2B content rather than the whole market.

Academic work points in a related direction. A Princeton study on Generative Engine Optimization found that adding citations, quotations and statistics can lift source visibility in AI answers by up to 40%, a figure that suggests structure and evidence density matter alongside where content lives.

The open question is whether the Ten Speed pattern survives model updates. Ten Speed has not published longitudinal data, and the study does not measure whether citations produce qualified pipeline. Community platforms may still deliver value that citation share cannot capture.

What the data does establish is that for B2B buyers comparing vendors, the shortest path to an AI citation runs through a company's own product and comparison pages, a discipline that now sits at the center of how SEO content writing services are judged.
