Most tools for saving a parent's life story assume the parent will use an app. Many never will.

Senarra lets an aging parent record their stories by answering an ordinary phone call, with no app to install.
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. - The oldest baby boomers turned 80 this year, and their children keep running into a gap that most memory-keeping products ignore. The parent whose stories matter most is usually the one least willing to install anything.
The market for preserving a parent's life story has grown fast, but nearly all of it assumes the parent will take part. There is an app to download, an account to create, a weekly email to answer. For families whose parent is 80, or unwell, or simply done learning new technology, that assumption is where the project dies.
Senarra, a memory-preservation app built by Cindara Novera, LLC, works the other way round. Senarra telephones the parent. They answer, enter a six-digit code their family gave them, and talk. Senarra asks gentle questions, listens, and saves the conversation in their own words and their own voice, back to the family's private archive. Any landline or cell phone works. There is nothing to install and no account to create on the parent's side.
"My family lost someone important in January 2026, and I had almost nothing of their voice," said Bryan Hale, who built Senarra. "Every tool I looked at needed them to do something they never would have done. The phone was the one piece of technology they never stopped trusting."
WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS, DEPENDING ON THE PARENT
No single tool fits every family. An honest summary of the current options:
If your parent will write: StoryWorth emails a prompt each week and collects a year of written answers into a printed book. It has the longest track record in the category.
If your parent will talk but not type: Remento and Senarra both record spoken answers and transcribe them, so you keep the actual voice and not only the text.
If your parent will not use an app at all: Storii and Senarra both place phone calls. This is the narrowest case and the most underserved, and it is the one most likely to apply to someone in their eighties.
If you want to start this afternoon for free: the Voice Memos app already on your phone will do. Put it on the table during coffee and ask one question. A short recording you actually make beats a better plan you never start.
Senarra publishes a free six-page list of 49 questions at https://senarra.app/questions for families who want to start that way, with no product involved. No signup is required.
FOR FAMILIES DISPLACED BY HEREAFTER AI'S CLOSURE
HereAfter AI, one of the earlier products in this category, has shut down. Senarra imports a HereAfter export free on its free membership, with no card required, and everything can be exported back out at any time. Details are at https://senarra.app/hereafter
PRIVACY
Senarra's memories are private by default and sharing is opt-in per family member. The company does not sell user data and does not train AI models on family content. Answers drawn from a family's archive come only from what that family recorded. The product does not invent. Export is included on every membership, including the free one, and nothing preserved is deleted if a paid membership lapses.
AVAILABILITY AND PRICING
Senarra is on iPhone and Android. The free membership is permanent and includes two phone-line calls a month. Paid memberships start at $4.99 a month and add storage, call time, and on higher tiers the ability to hear answers returned in a preserved voice. Paid memberships include a 14-day trial.
