8th V2G Business, Policy & Technology Forum to Feature End-to-End V2G Interoperability Demonstration in Detroit

Key stakeholders in the U.S. EV charging ecosphere will convene October 27-29 at the American Center for Mobility for the 8th V2G Business, Policy & Technology Forum: Fall. Participants will examine one of the industry's most pressing challenges: moving Vehicle-to-Grid technology from individual pilots toward interoperable, scalable commercial deployment.

A centerpiece of the Fall V2G Forum will be a V2G End-to-End Testbed configured to demonstrate standards-conformant, seamless communications and power flow across the full chain of communications and power dispatch for both AC and DC V2G Systems -- from EV to charger to aggregator and utility and back.

Today's V2G deployments frequently depend on combinations of vehicles, chargers, communications platforms and utility systems that have been integrated for a specific project. The Forum's End-to-End initiative is focused on advancing a standardized approach to testing interoperability across the complete V2G system. The objective is to identify the technical and operational issues that must be addressed for broader commercial deployment.

Organized by Smart Grid Observer, the Forum provides a neutral, non-commercial setting for utilities, automakers, regulators, standards organizations, charging providers and technology companies to address the technical, policy and commercial barriers to V2G deployment.

Now in its eighth edition, the Fall edition of the Forum will combine executive-level discussion, technical presentations, focused workshops and hands-on demonstration activities.

"V2G has reached the point where the central question is no longer whether bidirectional charging can work, but how the industry can make complete V2G systems interoperable, repeatable and scalable," said Daniel Coran, Program Manager for the Forum. "That requires coordination across multiple stakeholders in the V2G value chain. This Forum is designed to help these groups focus on the technical, policy and commercial issues that still need to be resolved."

Hosted by the American Center for Mobility, the Fall Forum is sponsored by Keysight, Eaton, Heliox, Pacific Power Source and ev.energy. Event partners include CharIN North America, Clean Fuels Michigan, the Electrification Coalition, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, the Vehicle Grid Integration Council and others.

Confirmed speakers represent organizations including DTE Electric, Ford, Nissan, Honda, Stellantis, Southern California Edison, General Motors, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, EPRI, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Michigan Public Service Commission, UL Solutions, CharIN North America, and many others.

The Forum is designed to foster direct interaction among the organizations working to move V2G from demonstration projects toward repeatable commercial deployment.
