Los Angeles, California - September 25, 2026 - Most of us don't choose the beliefs that shape our earliest years.

We inherit them.

We're handed a way of life and taught it is the only true way.

But what happens when the beliefs we inherited can no longer hold the weight of the reality unfolding around us?

For Kami Flack, that question wasn't philosophical.

It became deeply personal.

In When Faith Couldn't Hold: Love, Loss, and the Belief That Failed , Flack shares the story of a little girl who couldn't understand why love felt so frightening, why belonging felt so conditional, or why it didn't feel safe to ask honest questions. Because she couldn't imagine the adults around her were wrong, she quietly concluded that something must be wrong with her instead.

Raised in a tightly controlled religious environment, Kami inherited a worldview where obedience offered protection, perfection secured belonging, and doubt carried consequences. From an early age, she sensed a quiet disconnect between what she was being taught and what she experienced in her own heart. But as a child, questioning the beliefs around her never felt like an option. If something didn't make sense, she assumed the problem must be her.

As she grew into adulthood, Kami did everything she believed she was supposed to do. She married her high school sweetheart, raised and homeschooled her six children, served in church leadership, and devoted herself to helping others. From the outside, her life reflected the very ideals she had been taught to pursue.

Yet beneath that outward faithfulness, the quiet questions never disappeared.

Then everything changed.

When her son Cole-a bright, compassionate, and gifted young athlete-developed a rare autoimmune disease, Kami and her family entered years of hospitalizations, medical uncertainty, and unimaginable grief.

Instead of finding the comfort they desperately needed, they were confronted with accusations.

Cole's illness was interpreted by some as evidence of hidden sin, pride, rebellion, insufficient faith, or spiritual failure. Dreams, prophecies, and declarations surrounded the family, placing an unbearable burden on parents who were already fighting to keep their son alive.

These experiences became the breaking point for questions Kami had quietly carried since childhood.

What happens when certainty leaves no room for compassion?

What happens when suffering is treated as evidence of spiritual failure instead of an invitation to love more deeply?

And what happens when the beliefs we've inherited ask us to doubt our own lived experience instead of making room for it?

When Faith Couldn't Hold explores the profound cost of protecting inherited beliefs at the expense of our lived experience and invites readers to consider what becomes possible when we're brave enough to tell ourselves the truth.

At the center of the story is Cole himself.

Even as his body grew weaker, his courage, humor, compassion, and determination never left him. He refused to be defined by his diagnosis or reduced to a lesson for someone else's theology.

When Cole died at just fifteen years old, his mother's world didn't simply fall apart.

It exposed the growing tension she had carried for decades.

The questions she had spent a lifetime trying to quiet could no longer be ignored.

But this story was never meant to end with Kami alone.

Every chapter concludes with thoughtful reflections that invite readers to pause and explore their own.

These guided questions and truth statements encourage readers to consider their own experiences with grief, inherited beliefs, perfectionism, religious trauma, caregiving, emotional invalidation, and healing.

When Faith Couldn't Hold is more than a memoir.

It is an invitation to tell the truth about our own lives-even when that truth asks us to question everything we thought we knew.
