Test and Measurement Equipment Market: Global Market Set to Reach US$65.00 Billion by 2035 at a 5.6% CAGR as Traceability and Automated Workflows Reshape Procurement
The global test and measurement equipment market was valued at US$37.70 billion in 2025 and is forecast to reach US$65.00 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.6% during 2026-2035. Demand is moving away from isolated instrument purchases toward synchronized measurement systems that combine hardware, automation software, calibration traceability and specialist application support. The commercial shift is being driven by higher measurement density across semiconductors, wireless communications, electric vehicles, aerospace, AI infrastructure and regulated medical products. Engineering teams must now validate power, signal integrity, thermal behavior, electromagnetic compatibility, protocol performance and network resilience across a single program. The buyer's challenge is not simply selecting the instrument with the highest specifications; it is ensuring that data, test code, accessories, calibration and service support remain reliable throughout the product lifecycle.

General-purpose instruments held the largest market share in 2025 at 62.4%, reflecting widespread use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers and power analyzers. The fastest value creation, however, is moving toward semiconductor platforms, wireless systems, RF chambers, network simulators and software-defined test workflows.
Measurement traceability is becoming a production requirement
In aerospace, defense, automotive, healthcare and advanced electronics, a measurement result has little value without evidence that the instrument, probe, fixture and method were suitable for the task. This is making calibration, repair and technical support a strategic part of procurement rather than an after-sales add-on.
Calibration services represented the largest share of recurring service revenue in 2025. The reason is practical: regulated and quality-controlled organizations require documented accuracy, uncertainty records and auditable procedures. A lapsed calibration or unavailable repair part can delay product release, certification activity or fault investigation.
This changes vendor selection. Buyers increasingly evaluate local service capability, turnaround time, asset-management tools, calibration accreditation, spare-parts availability and remote support alongside instrument performance. A lower-cost instrument can become the more expensive choice when downtime, recertification and engineering rework are considered.
Multi-year service agreements are therefore gaining importance. They allow laboratories and production sites to plan maintenance spending, manage fleet status and reduce the risk of unplanned measurement disruption. For vendors, this creates recurring revenue and a stronger relationship with installed accounts.
AI infrastructure and advanced packaging raise test complexity
The expansion of AI data centers, high-performance computing and advanced semiconductor packaging is increasing demand for high-speed digital, power and protocol testing. Chiplets, high-bandwidth memory, PCIe 7.0, CXL and 1.6-terabit networking create tighter tolerances for jitter, eye diagrams, compliance and signal integrity.
Semiconductor test equipment accounted for 12% of 2025 market revenue, but its strategic importance is greater than its share suggests. Test requirements now extend beyond the wafer to packaged devices, boards, systems and interconnects. This creates opportunities for suppliers that can connect design simulation, physical validation and production test in one workflow.
The same pattern is visible in power electronics. Silicon carbide and gallium nitride devices are expanding in electric vehicles, renewable-energy converters and AI data-center power systems. These applications require specialized power analyzers, isolated probes, oscilloscopes and automated double-pulse test systems. Accuracy, safety and repeatability are critical because the test environment must capture fast switching events without introducing measurement error.
Wireless test equipment is also becoming more specialized. 5G-Advanced, satellite-terrestrial integration, private networks and early 6G research require higher-frequency coverage, wider bandwidth, over-the-air testing and sophisticated channel simulation. Suppliers that can offer modular upgrades and software-defined architectures will be better positioned than those requiring full system replacement with each technology cycle.

Automated workflows reduce the real cost of testing
The most important purchasing change is the move toward reusable, automated test sequences. Engineering teams want to apply the same validated methods across laboratories, manufacturing sites and field-service operations. Automation reduces manual setup, speeds fault isolation and makes results easier to compare across locations.
Software is becoming the key differentiator. Instrument-control platforms, analytics, feature licenses, fleet management and data sharing create recurring revenue and strengthen customer retention. Yet software value depends on interoperability. Many laboratories use equipment from several vendors, and fragmented data formats can make automation difficult.
This creates an opening for providers that support open interfaces, synchronized multi-instrument measurements and test-code portability. It also creates a barrier for smaller users, which may lack the specialists needed to build automated environments. Rental, modular instruments, managed test services and application support can help suppliers reach these accounts without forcing immediate capital investment.
North America led the market with 34% of 2025 revenue, supported by semiconductor design, cloud infrastructure, aerospace and defense, medical-device development and communications research. Asia-Pacific held 33% and is expected to expand strongly through semiconductor manufacturing, consumer electronics, telecom equipment, electric vehicles and contract manufacturing. Europe remains an important compliance-led market where safety, electromagnetic compatibility, automotive engineering and energy efficiency sustain demand.
