MS5607 - Compact 24-Bit Pressure Sensor for Precise Altitude Measurement
AMSYS offers the MS5607-02BA03, a compact barometric pressure sensor for precise altitude and barometric pressure measurements. Typical applications include altimeters and barometers, variometers, bike computers, data loggers as well as mobile devices and GPS systems.Inside, the sensor combines a piezoresistive sensing element with a 24-bit DS ADC. The extended pressure range spans 10 to 2000 mbar, while the compensated range for barometric applications covers 300 to 1100 mbar. At 25 ?C and 750 mbar, the specified pressure accuracy is ?1.5 mbar. Depending on the selected oversampling rate, the sensor achieves a resolution of up to 0.024 mbar; for altitude measurements, a resolution of up to 20 cm is specified.
--- Flexible balance of resolution, speed and power consumption
Different oversampling settings allow developers to adapt measurement resolution, conversion time and current consumption to the respective application. Depending on the selected setting, conversion time ranges from approximately 0.5 to 8.2 ms. The supply voltage ranges from 1.8 to 3.6 V. At one measurement per second, current consumption is between 0.9 and 12.5 mA depending on the oversampling rate; in standby mode, it is specified at a maximum of 0.14 mA at 25 ?C.
For digital communication, both I2C and SPI interfaces are available. In addition to the pressure value, the MS5607-02BA03 provides a high-resolution temperature value. Each sensor is factory-calibrated at two temperatures and two pressure points. The resulting calibration coefficients are stored in the internal PROM and can be used for software-based compensation of pressure and temperature.
With dimensions of only 5.0 ? 3.0 ? 1.0 mm, the sensor is particularly well suited for compact assemblies and mobile devices. The operating temperature range extends from -40 to +85 ?C, while long-term pressure stability is specified at ?1 mbar per year.
AMSYS supports customers in sensor selection, technical evaluation and integration into the respective application.

Pressure Sensing Die, OEM Sensor or Transmitter? Understanding the Differences
Not all pressure sensors are created equal. There are significant differences between a tiny pressure sensing die and a ready-to-connect pressure transmitter - even though both measure pressure. The key question is how much of the measurement task is already handled by the sensor solution and what the device developer still needs to take care of. AMSYS explains how the different sensor solutions differ in design and functionality.
From the Sensing…
Filter Monitoring with Differential Pressure: Reliably Detecting Contamination
An air filter may look clean from the outside while already restricting airflow. As particles accumulate in the filter medium, the flow resistance increases and, under comparable operating conditions, so does the pressure drop. This difference can be measured with a differential pressure sensor and used for filter monitoring.
Pressure Drop as a Condition Indicator
Pressure is measured upstream and downstream of the filter. The differential pressure Dp is the difference between…
The Most Important Criteria When Selecting a Pressure Sensor
Choosing the right pressure range is only the beginning when selecting a pressure sensor. What really matters is the interaction between the measurement task, operating conditions and system integration. Considering these aspects systematically from the start helps narrow down the number of suitable sensors and prevents a seemingly suitable component from later failing because of its interface, media compatibility or mechanical design.
Start with the measurement task
The first question is what…
Absolute, Gauge or Differential Pressure? Choosing the Right Measurement Type
Pressure is not just pressure. When selecting a suitable sensor, the first question is which reference point matters for the measurement. Absolute, gauge and differential pressure sensors measure the same physical quantity, but compare the measured pressure with different references. Keeping these measurement types clearly separated helps match the sensor more precisely to the application.
The reference makes the difference
For absolute pressure measurement, a near-perfect vacuum serves as a fixed reference.…
