Popular web designer and digital archivist, Ayeni Kikio Tolu, has commended the organisers of the annual Udiroko Festival for their commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba cultural heritage, describing the festival as a vital platform for safeguarding the identity of the Ekiti people in an increasingly modern world.

Speaking at the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti during this year's Udiroko Festival, Ayeni said the celebration continues to reinforce the values, traditions and cultural identity of the Yoruba people, while adapting to contemporary realities.

"I am pleased that the Udiroko Festival continues to advance and protect our culture," he said.

"One thing we must be careful about as a people is not to lose our identity to the modern era. That is why events like Udiroko remain important on my calendar."

Drawing comparisons with developed societies, Ayeni noted that European and Asian nations have successfully integrated their cultural heritage into modern life, making it a defining part of their global identity.

"This is one thing the Europeans and Asians have perfected. Their culture is strategically infused into their modern society. We must also continue to preserve what makes us unique," he added.

He praised the colourful display of traditional music, dance, costumes and other cultural performances witnessed at the Ewi's Palace, describing the event as a remarkable showcase of Ekiti's rich heritage.

"What we witnessed today at the Ewi's Palace was a beautiful celebration of our culture through dancing, singing, costumes and several other artistic expressions. I am always impressed by how the creative direction of the festival improves every year, giving me confidence that this important cultural tradition will continue to thrive for generations."

Speaking from his professional perspective as a web designer, Ayeni stressed the importance of digital documentation in preserving history for future generations.

"The World Wide Web has become one of humanity's most reliable archives. It is designed to preserve information far beyond what ancient repositories like the Library of Alexandria could achieve. That is why I commend the Ewi's Palace for embracing digital archiving as an important aspect of the festival."

According to him, documenting cultural festivals online ensures that future generations will have access to authentic records of their history, traditions and identity.

"Our story is unique. Our experiences, our people and our traditions are priceless, and they are worth preserving."

Ayeni further observed that while Udiroko has grown into one of Ekiti's most celebrated cultural festivals, many other indigenous festivals across the state still deserve greater visibility and investment.

"There are many festivals in Ekiti that have not yet received the exposure and support that Udiroko enjoys today. I believe that will change with time because Ekiti has an important story to tell the world."

He expressed optimism about the future of cultural tourism and heritage promotion in Ekiti State, concluding with a goodwill message to the people.

"The future will be interesting for us all. Aku Odun Olorunborun."
