$240 Billion and Rising: Inside APAC's Next Hyperscale Data Center Wave | Arizton
APAC is moving toward one of the largest hyperscale data center investment cycles globally, with the market increasingly defined by the scale of capital required and the infrastructure needed to support next-generation workloads. AI applications are pushing computing and rack-density requirements higher, while data sovereignty is strengthening the need for locally hosted capacity across national markets. Together, these factors are expanding both the demand for hyperscale capacity and the infrastructure requirements behind it.To Know More, Click: https://www.arizton.com/market-reports/apac-hyperscale-data-center-market
Where APAC Hyperscale Capital Is Concentrating
China remains a major hyperscale investment market, supported by extensive international connectivity and accelerating AI adoption. Around 22 international undersea cables connect China with major global markets, while approximately 515 million people had adopted AI by June 2025. These factors are supporting continued investment in large-scale and AI-ready data center capacity.
Hong Kong continues to benefit from its connectivity, proximity to mainland China, and FDI environment. The government's Developing Data Centres Unit is also supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening Hong Kong's position as a regional data center hub.
Indiais experiencing strong capacity expansion across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune. Investments by ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, NTT DATA, Equinix, Sify Technologies, and Nxtra by Airtel highlight the concentration of hyperscale and colocation activity across these markets and the growing competition for power, land, and new capacity.
Australia and Japan remain established hyperscale markets, with cloud and AI workloads supporting continued demand. However, power availability and sustainability requirements are becoming more important factors in future site selection and capacity planning.
Singapore and Malaysia demonstrate the changing geography of Southeast Asian data center investment. Singapore's land and power constraints are encouraging capacity expansion into neighboring markets. Malaysia is particularly well positioned due to its strategic location, established digital infrastructure, and comparatively lower land and energy costs.
AI is Raising the Infrastructure Intensity of Hyperscale Capacity
AI is shifting APAC hyperscale investment from simply adding capacity toward building infrastructure capable of supporting significantly higher computing densities. AI adoption across manufacturing, automotive, healthcare, finance, and technology is increasing demand for high-performance computing, while initiatives such as Taiwan's USD 3.2 million investment in national AI infrastructure in 2025 and South Korea's use of AI for smart power grids indicate a broader push to strengthen the supporting ecosystem. For data center operators, the implication is clear: future capacity additions will require greater power availability, higher-density racks, and more advanced cooling and electrical infrastructure, making AI readiness an increasingly important consideration in hyperscale development.
Sustainability is Reshaping Data Center Investment Priorities Across APAC
Sustainability targets are increasingly influencing data center investment across APAC, particularly around renewable power and energy-efficient infrastructure. Australia aims to source more than 82% of its electricity from renewables by 2030, while Indonesia targets more than 48% renewable electricity by 2030 and Taiwan has outlined plans for 50-80 GW of solar, 40-55 GW of wind, and 8-14 GW of geothermal capacity by 2050.
These targets are supporting greater adoption of renewable energy integration, liquid cooling, free cooling, and waste heat recovery as operators seek to improve efficiency and manage rising power requirements. Sustainable infrastructure is therefore becoming an increasingly important part of APAC's expanding data center investment pipeline.
254 Vendor Investments Signal a Broadening APAC Capacity Pipeline
The APAC hyperscale data center market is supported by investment from both global hyperscalers and major colocation providers. Arizton's analysis tracks 254 vendor investments shaping the regional market.
AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Meta are expanding self-built data center capacity across APAC, while colocation operators including AirTrunk, GDS Services (DayOne), Chindata Group, Vantage Data Centers, STACK Infrastructure, AdaniConneX, EdgeConneX, NEXTDC, NTT DATA, Equinix, Princeton Digital Group, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Digital Realty are contributing to regional capacity expansion.
This broad investment base is also supporting demand across the data center infrastructure supply chain, particularly for power, cooling, racks, UPS systems, and backup generation.
Infrastructure requirements are also changing as rack densities increase:
UPS: Li-ion batteries are gaining consideration as operators seek alternatives to traditional lead-acid systems while maintaining required redundancy levels.
Backup Power: Diesel generators remain widely deployed, with N+1 and 2N configurations common across hyperscale facilities. HVO-powered generation is expected to gain traction.
Racks: 42U remains the most common configuration, while 45U, 47U, and 48U racks are primarily deployed in larger facilities.
Cooling: Air-based systems remain widely used, but higher rack densities are accelerating demand for liquid cooling.
High-density computing: Average rack densities are expected to increase from around 15-25 kW to more than 50 kW by 2029, while peak AI workloads could reach 250-500 kW per rack.
The Economics Behind the Next APAC Hyperscale Market Wave
APAC's next hyperscale capacity wave will increasingly depend on the ability to secure power, land, connectivity, and high-density infrastructure at commercially viable costs. While established markets such as China, India, Australia, Japan, and Singapore will continue to anchor regional investment, infrastructure availability and development economics are creating a stronger case for emerging Southeast Asian locations. For operators and infrastructure suppliers, this points to a broader shift in the market: the opportunity is no longer defined only by where digital demand is highest, but by where large-scale capacity can be developed and powered efficiently.
