Dog Bite Murders

GLOBE, ARIZONA | August 17, 2026
The Dog Bite Murders, an award-winning independent historical Western written and directed by Globe filmmakers Gregory Shoemaker and Clint Clarkson, is now available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video. Rooted in actual events from 1910, the film depicts two army deserters charged with killing a pair of hunters in the Arizona Territory, along with a determined defense attorney drawn into the unforgiving world of frontier justice.

For the community of Globe, this national streaming release means more than simply placing a hometown production on a major platform. It opens a window for viewers nationwide to encounter the history, residents, architecture, and scenery of a place that has weathered challenging times and continues to assert its distinctive identity within Arizona.

A WESTERN BORN IN GLOBE
Shoemaker and Clarkson approached the project with a deliberate goal from the outset. They set out to create Globe's counterpart to Tombstone-drawing on a genuine episode from the town's past and shaping it into a Western capable of carrying Globe's name well beyond the state's borders.

"We wanted this movie to really be Globe's version of Tombstone," the filmmakers explained. "We wanted to take a story that actually happened here, use the historic locations that are still standing, and make a movie that people could watch and then come to Globe and experience for themselves. The real streets, the real buildings, and the real atmosphere of this place were essential."
That intention guided the entire production. More than 70 percent of the footage was captured on location in and around Globe, incorporating landmarks such as the 1910 jail and the 1916 train depot, as well as privately owned historic properties and the surrounding high-desert terrain. Instead of constructing an artificial Western setting elsewhere, the filmmakers insisted on showing the authentic sites tied to the town's past. Familiar streets, structures, and landmarks that have defined the community for generations became inseparable from the finished film, giving the project an uncommon sense of place.
Shoemaker first encountered the historical case while appearing as the hangman on Globe's Ghosts of Globe tours. His growing fascination led to deeper research, discussions with local historians, and examination of period documents. What started as curiosity gradually developed into the full-length feature that Shoemaker and Clarkson ultimately realized on screen. During principal photography, Fox 10 Phoenix also covered the production, providing early regional attention.

FROM LOCAL SCREENS TO WIDER REACH
The Dog Bite Murders first found its audience through festival screenings before launching its theatrical run at Hollis Cinemas in downtown Globe. That hometown engagement allowed residents to experience the story on the large screen in the same community where the original events took place and where most of the film was shot. For many who attended, the screening carried added meaning, as scenes unfolded that had been filmed only a short distance away.
The film later appeared in theaters across Arizona and beyond, including venues in Payson, Show Low, and Valdez, Alaska. Screenings at FatCats Cinemas in the Phoenix area further extended its reach into larger Arizona markets. The theatrical phase represented a significant achievement for an independent production created in a small Arizona town. Moving from a local shoot to festival recognition and theatrical play confirmed that carefully made regional films can find audiences well outside their point of origin.

Availability on Amazon Prime Video now marks the next substantial expansion, placing the film within ready reach of viewers across the country who may never have heard of Globe yet may leave the experience wanting to learn more.

RECOGNITION ON THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT
The Dog Bite Murders has earned multiple honors that highlight both the craftsmanship of the production and the strength of its narrative. Accolades include:

Best Feature - Show Low Film Festival
Best Cinematography - Zions Independent Film Fest
Best Score - IFS Film Festival
Best Crime Western Film - Wild Bunch Film Festival
Best Drama Feature Film - Wild Bunch Film Festival
Festival Director's Choice for Modern Day Western Film - Wild Bunch Film Festival
Festival Director's Choice for Best Director, Modern Day Western - Wild Bunch Film Festival (Gregory Shoemaker and Clint Clarkson)

The film also screened at the 2025 Wild Bunch Film Festival in Tucson. These distinctions strengthened the project's profile while continuing to spotlight a story and production that began in Globe. For independent filmmakers working far from major industry centers, such recognition carries special weight, affirming that thoughtfully crafted regional work can hold its own.

CASTING ANCHORED BY ARIZONAACTORS.COM

A central priority throughout production was keeping the cast firmly rooted in Arizona talent. Shoemaker and Clarkson relied heavily on https://ArizonaActors.com as their primary casting resource. The platform's extensive, searchable database of Arizona performers-complete with photos, bios, and special skills-enabled the filmmakers to review a wide range of local and statewide talent and select actors who could bring authenticity to both principal roles and supporting parts.

By working through https://ArizonaActors.com, the directors were able to connect efficiently with performers across the state while maintaining a strong emphasis on Arizona-based talent. In addition to their online search through the site, they held an open casting call in Globe itself, further reinforcing their commitment to involving community members. The finished film features local residents in speaking roles and more than fifty Globe residents in background positions. This combination of ArizonaActors.com outreach and local casting calls helped ensure the production felt genuinely of the place rather than simply using Globe as a filming backdrop. Local participation became a defining strength of the project and deepened its sense of authenticity.

A FILM OF GLOBE, MADE IN GLOBE
At its core, The Dog Bite Murders recounts a genuine chapter of Globe's past, filmed in the very locations where those events unfolded. Shoemaker and Clarkson hope the movie will introduce new viewers to the community and inspire them to experience it firsthand. For a town with a long and layered history in Arizona, the film provides another means of preserving and sharing stories from earlier eras. It also illustrates what independent filmmakers can achieve when they choose to tell stories grounded in their own surroundings instead of relocating production or chasing broader trends.

Following a series of difficult years for Globe, the progression of a locally produced feature from the town's historic streets to theaters, festivals, and now Amazon Prime Video offers a fresh chance to place the community before a national audience. The filmmakers hope those who discover The Dog Bite Murders on the streaming platform will grow curious about the real events behind the story and, in turn, about Globe itself. The narrative that began in 1910 can now reach viewers across the country, while the physical places where it took place remain open to those who decide to visit.

The Dog Bite Murders is an independent historical Western feature film written and directed by Globe, Arizona filmmakers Gregory Shoemaker and Clint Clarkson. Inspired by true events that took place in Globe in 1910 during the Arizona Territory period, the 109-minute drama tells the story of two army deserters accused of murdering two hunters and the determined defense attorney who becomes entangled in the harsh realities of frontier justice.

The production was conceived as Globe's own version of a classic Western, with the explicit goal of using the town's authentic history, architecture, and landscapes rather than fabricating a generic Western setting. More than 70 percent of the film was shot on location in and around Globe, incorporating historic sites still standing today, including the 1910 jail, the 1916 train depot, private historic properties, and the surrounding high-desert terrain. This approach allowed the filmmakers to present audiences with the actual places connected to the historical events, creating a strong sense of place and authenticity.

Casting emphasized Arizona and local talent. The filmmakers used ArizonaActors.com as a primary resource to review actor profiles and connect with performers across the state, while also holding an open casting call in Globe. Local residents appeared in speaking roles, and more than fifty community members participated as background performers, further rooting the production in the community where the story originated.

The Dog Bite Murders first reached audiences through film festival screenings and a theatrical run that began at Hollis Cinemas in downtown Globe before expanding to other Arizona theaters (including Payson, Show Low, and the Phoenix area) and additional venues such as Valdez, Alaska. The film has received multiple awards, including Best Feature (Show Low Film Festival), Best Cinematography (Zions Independent Film Fest), Best Score (IFS Film Festival), Best Crime Western Film, Best Drama Feature Film, and Festival Director's Choice awards for Modern Day Western and Best Director at the Wild Bunch Film Festival.

Following its festival and theatrical journey, The Dog Bite Murders became available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, bringing a locally produced story rooted in Globe's history to a national audience. The official website is https://thedogbitemurders.com. The project stands as an example of independent filmmakers telling a genuine regional story using the actual locations and people of their own community.
