SiGMA North America set to deliver millions to Mexico's economy
Centro Banamex, Mexico City, Aug 12, 2026, ZEX PR WIRE - When SiGMA North America debuts in Mexico City from 01 to 03 September 2026, it will do far more than bring together the world's leading voices in gaming, technology and digital innovation. The inaugural summit is expected to generate a significant economic boost for Mexico, injecting an estimated MXN220 million (€10 million) in direct spending into the local economy while strengthening the country's position as Latin America's leading destination for business events.Bringing together 4,000 delegates, 1,000 operators, 850 affiliates, 150 exhibitors and sponsors, and more than 150 expert speakers, the summit represents one of the largest B2B gatherings dedicated to gaming, fintech, blockchain, AI and emerging technologies ever held in the region. As international decision-makers arrive in the Mexican capital, their spending will extend well beyond the exhibition halls, creating opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, retailers, entertainment venues and local suppliers.
A major boost for business tourism
Business events have long been recognised as powerful economic drivers, and SiGMA North America is expected to reinforce Mexico City's growing reputation as a premier MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination.
The Economic Impact Assessment indicates that delegates attending the 2026 summit are likely to generate approximately 12,600 hotel nights. The international delegates are expected to stay an average of 4.5 days, while national delegates from outside Mexico City's urban center will remain for about 3 days, indicating continued demand in the hospitality industry. The demand represents hotel expenditures of about MXN 90 million (€4.2 million) during the inaugural event. In the coming years, hotel expenditures are expected to increase to a figure between MXN 130 million and MXN 160 million by 2030, underscoring the long-term benefit of establishing SiGMA North America in Mexico.
According to the Economic Impact Assessment, delegates attending the summit are projected to generate approximately 12,600 hotel nights during the 2026 event. International visitors are expected to stay an average of 4.5 nights, while domestic delegates travelling from outside central Mexico City are forecast to remain for three nights, creating sustained demand across the hospitality sector.
This translates into approximately MXN 90 million (€4.2 million) in hotel expenditures alone for the first edition of SiGMA North America. With growth in attendance in subsequent years, hotel expenditures are expected to increase to MXN 130-160 million annually by 2030, underscoring the benefits of establishing SiGMA North America in Mexico.
Restaurants, entertainment and local businesses benefit
The economic impact extends well beyond accommodation.
Delegates are expected to spend approximately MXN45 million (€2 million) on food and beverages throughout the three-day summit, providing a welcome boost for restaurants, cafés, bars and catering businesses across the city. Based on the assessment, visitors are expected to spend an average of MXN3,500 (€160) per delegate per day on dining and refreshments.
Additional spending on local transport, entertainment and other visitor activities is forecast to contribute a further MXN35 million (€1.6 million) to the economy during the event. With delegates travelling throughout Mexico City for networking events, dinners, business meetings and cultural experiences, sectors ranging from taxis and ride-sharing services to museums, nightlife venues and retail outlets are expected to benefit from increased visitor activity.
Combined, spending on hotels, food, beverages and ancillary services is projected to reach approximately MXN170 million (€7.8 million) in direct delegate expenditure during 2026.
Investment reaches beyond the exhibition floor
SiGMA's contribution to the Mexican economy begins well before delegates arrive.
The assessment forecasts an additional MXN48.5 million (€2.2 million) will be invested locally through exhibition stand construction, venue rental and related event infrastructure. Much of this spending will flow directly to Mexican suppliers, event contractors, logistics providers, production companies and technical specialists responsible for delivering the summit.
When venue expenditure is combined with delegate spending, the total direct economic contribution of SiGMA North America is expected to reach approximately MXN220 million (€10 million) during its first edition. By 2030, that figure is forecast to grow to between MXN315 million and MXN390 million (€14.5 million to €18 million) as attendance continues to increase.
It is worth noting that these figures apply only to direct expenditures and do not include indirect or induced effects in the economy, such as the creation of new jobs and suppliers' sales. Therefore, the overall impact of the above spending activities may be much larger than the amount mentioned.
Showcasing Mexico's digital economy
The summit arrives at a particularly significant moment for Mexico's digital economy.
Mexico now boasts more than 83 percent internet penetration, approximately 72 million gamers, while 93 percent of internet users access online services via smartphones. The country's online ager market is projected to almost double from US$970 million in 2025 to nearly US$2 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of approximately 15 percent. Mexico also ranks among the top ten countries globally for daily visits to online wager websites, underlining its importance as a rapidly expanding digital market.
These market fundamentals make Mexico an increasingly attractive destination for international investment in gaming, fintech, blockchain and AI. By bringing together operators, investors, regulators, technology providers and entrepreneurs from around the world, SiGMA North America creates a platform for new partnerships, cross-border collaboration and long-term commercial opportunities.
Additionally, the report emphasizes that the summit plays a key role in promoting dialogue on Mexico's regulatory framework and in helping Mexico become a center for innovation, responsible gaming, and digital entertainment.
Building long-term value
While the immediate economic benefits are substantial, the summit's longer-term value lies in its ability to attract repeat investment and strengthen Mexico's international profile.
The assessment concludes that, if successfully established, SiGMA North America has the potential to cement Mexico as Latin America's flagship destination for iGaming, esports, fintech and digital economy discussions over the coming decade. As attendance is projected to grow from 4,000 delegates in 2026 to between 5,000 and 6,300 by 2030, the resulting increase in tourism, business investment and international exposure will continue generating value for both Mexico City and the wider Mexican economy.
With thousands of global decision-makers gathering under one roof this September, SiGMA North America represents far more than an industry conference. It is a catalyst for investment, tourism and innovation, demonstrating how international business events can deliver measurable economic returns while showcasing Mexico as one of the most promising digital economies in the Americas.
