MAXIMUS FLIES HIGH WITH TOP CARGO AWARD
Abu Dhabi (UAE) 2 June 2008 - Abu Dhabi-based Maximus Air Cargo has topped an outstanding start to the year by being declared Cargo Operator of the Year (Cargo Airline) in the 2008 Middle East Supply Chain & Transport Awards.The awards celebrate the region’s shipping, cargo and logistics industries and honour regional and international players that have delivered outstanding performance.
Organised by ITP Business Publishing, the awards ceremony took place at the Al Murooj Rotana in Dubai, and was attended by more than 200 top executives from the Middle East transportation and logistics industries.
Accepting the award on behalf of Maximus Air Cargo, president and chief executive officer Fathi Hilal Buhazza, said: “To be so honoured by our peers in the industry speaks highly for what we have set out to achieve at Maximus.
“Already in 2008, we have tripled our turnover and were among the very first carriers to bring aid relief to disaster-stricken communities in Myanmar and China.

The Middle East Supply Chain & Transport Awards comprise 16 categories in logistics, sea freight and air cargo, with nominations judged by a prestigious panel of industry experts.
Cargo Operator of the Year (Cargo Airline) was awarded on the basis of consistently delivering industry-leading service across the Middle East and to the international market in the past 12 months.
So far this year, Maximus Air Cargo, the specialist ‘heavy-lifter’ of the airfreight world, has more than tripled its turnover compared to 2007. At the same time, aircraft hours sold increased 6.3 times from 471 to 3,062.
Turnover for January-April 2008 was AED 122.77 million, compared to AED 37.80 million for the same period last year.
Maximus now has a fleet of eight all-cargo Antonov An-124-100, Airbus A300-600RF, Ilyushin IL-76TD, and Lockheed Hercules L382G aircraft operating across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
With its Airbus freighters, Maximus operates regular scheduled cargo services on behalf of airlines including Etihad, Iberia, Air France, and Sudan Airways. So far this year, the company has also secured additional short and medium term aircraft wetlease contracts.
The carrier was the second to be granted landing rights by the Myanmar government and has so far delivered more than 90 tons in two flights on behalf of the UAE Red Crescent Association, arriving within three days of the disaster being declared following Cyclone Nargis.
Maximus has also delivered relief supplies to Sichuan province in China which has been devastated by an earthquake. Two more flights for the UAE Red Crescent from Abu Dhabi to Chengdu left last week, airlifting more than 70 tons of blankets and tents.
Four flights on behalf of the UN World Food Program, Médecins du Monde, and the UK Department for International Development carried more than 180 tons of medicine, food, tents, shelters, plastic sheeting, and tarpaulins to Yangon on board Ilyushin 76 and Airbus A300 cargo planes.

MAXIMUS FLIES AID TO SUDAN
Maximus Air Cargo has been commissioned to fly humanitarian aid to conflict-ridden Sudan.
The Abu Dhabi-headquartered heavy lifter of the airline world will carry about 4,500 tons of relief supplies from Khartoum over the next six months, including food, shelters, medicines and other relief supplies.
