California Hearing Center Explains What Oticon's New "Dual AI" Hearing Aid Means for Bay Area Patients

What "Dual AI" actually means

Most hearing aids improve speech clarity the same way: by suppressing everything that isn't speech. That approach can make a conversation easier to follow while stripping away the sounds that tell you where you are - footsteps behind you, a car approaching, a grandchild laughing across the room.

According to Oticon's announcement, Reveal takes a different approach. It runs two dedicated AI systems simultaneously and in real time on a new Reveal AITM platform:

Speech AI continuously identifies and enhances the speech of people around the wearer.
Context AI recognizes and balances the surrounding contextual sounds rather than removing them.

According to Oticon, the combination produces a 60% stronger brain response (Zapata-Rodríguez et al., 2026); the announcement does not state the comparison group for that figure. Oticon further states the system runs all day, across listening environments, without trading off battery life, comfort, size, or discretion, and claims "industry-leading access to speech" (Denker, 2026; and internal comparison to its top three competitors). Reveal also adds Bluetooth® LE Audio and AuracastTM broadcast support, which improves streaming stability and range for hands-free calls and audio, and allows wearers to tune directly into Auracast broadcasts in venues that offer them - theaters, airports, houses of worship, and lecture halls.

"Every manufacturer launches technology with impressive numbers attached, and some of it is genuinely meaningful," said Darcy Benson, Au.D., founder of California Hearing Center. "What's interesting about this one isn't the word 'AI' - it's the design decision underneath it. Preserving context instead of deleting it is closer to how the brain actually wants to work. Whether that translates for a specific patient still depends on their audiogram, their listening life, and how the device is fit and verified. That part hasn't changed and won't."

California Hearing Center is an independent practice and fits hearing aids from Oticon, Phonak, Widex, ReSound, Starkey, and Signia. Because the practice is not owned by a manufacturer, its audiologists recommend devices based on each patient's hearing loss, communication needs, and budget rather than a single brand's product line.
