The 2026 summer transfer window has already delivered some extraordinary deals, with Premier League clubs once again demonstrating the financial strength of English football.

The Biggest Premier League Transfers of Summer 2026

Perhaps the biggest statement so far has come from Chelsea, who have completed the £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

Chelsea have also brought in Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £51 million, Geovany Quenda from Sporting for £43.5 million and Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £43 million.

Manchester City have made an equally eye-catching move, paying Nottingham Forest £116 million for Elliot Anderson. City have also added highly rated Leicester youngster Jeremy Monga for £10 million.

But Tottenham Hotspur could arguably claim to have made some of the most ambitious moves of the window.

Spurs have signed Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for £100 million and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85 million. Jan Paul van Hecke has arrived from Brighton for £52 million, while Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have joined on free transfers.

"Tottenham's business really stands out. Tonali and Mateus Fernandes represent a huge investment in midfield, but adding experienced Premier League players such as Andy Robertson without a transfer fee could prove equally important."

Arsenal Make Their Move

Arsenal have also strengthened considerably.

The Gunners have completed the £75 million signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, one of the most significant transfers between Premier League clubs this summer.

Piero Hincapie has joined from Bayer Leverkusen for £34.5 million, while Christos Tzolis has arrived from Club Brugge for £34 million. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also joined from Leeds United on a free transfer.

Guimaraes could be particularly significant.

The Brazilian has established himself as one of the Premier League's leading midfielders, and Arsenal have acquired a player who already understands the demands of English football.

If Arsenal and Tottenham are among the major buyers, Newcastle have experienced a very different summer.

Bruno Guimaraes has moved to Arsenal for £75 million, while Sandro Tonali has joined Tottenham for £100 million. Anthony Gordon has also departed for Barcelona in a deal worth £69.3 million.

Newcastle have responded by bringing in several new players.

Bazoumana Toure has arrived from Hoffenheim for £42 million, Aladji Bamba from Monaco for £35.5 million, Lukas Hornicek from Braga for £25.7 million and Sean Steur from Ajax for £23 million.

It represents a considerable reshaping of the Newcastle squad.

"Newcastle are probably one of the most fascinating teams to watch now," Ball said.

"Losing Guimaraes, Tonali and Gordon in the same window changes the character of the side. They've reinvested, but replacing that much proven quality is a major challenge."

Manchester United Reshape Their Midfield

Manchester United have concentrated much of their major spending on midfield.

Andrey Santos has arrived from Chelsea for £50 million, while Youri Tielemans has joined from Aston Villa for £35 million.

United have also seen Rasmus Hojlund depart for Napoli for £38 million, while Casemiro has joined Inter Miami on a free transfer.

Those changes suggest another evolution of the United squad ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool Look to the Future

Liverpool's biggest expenditure so far has been the £60 million acquisition of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

Victor Munoz has also joined from Osasuna for £34.5 million, while Ronald Araujo has arrived from Barcelona on loan.

Ball believes Brighton's activity is typical of the club's willingness to continually refresh its squad.

"Brighton rarely stand still in the transfer market. Players leave, but the club continually backs its recruitment structure to identify the next group capable of stepping up."

"The £50 million investment in Luka Vuskovic is particularly interesting because it's a sizeable commitment and shows how ambitious Brighton have become."

Aston Villa See Major Changes

Aston Villa have also been at the centre of several substantial deals.

Johan Manzambi has joined from Freiburg for £59.5 million, with Joao Gomes arriving from Wolves for £38 million.

However, Villa have generated significant income from Morgan Rogers' £117 million transfer to Chelsea. Youri Tielemans has moved to Manchester United for £35 million, while Donyell Malen has joined Roma for £21.6 million.

Villa's ability to reinvest effectively could therefore have a major bearing on their season.

Premier League Clubs Continue to Spend

The scale of transfer activity demonstrates the enormous financial power that remains within the Premier League.

For context, Premier League clubs reportedly spent more than £3 billion during the summer 2025 transfer window.

The 2026 window has again produced nine-figure deals and significant transfers directly between Premier League rivals.

What Happens Next?

Despite the huge sums already committed, the summer transfer window is far from finished.

Premier League clubs have until 11 pm BST on Tuesday 1 September to complete their remaining business. The new Premier League season begins on Saturday 22 August, meaning the window will remain open after competitive football has returned.

That could create another wave of activity as managers assess their squads during the opening matches.

Players who find themselves outside starting line-ups may become available, while early injuries or weaknesses could force clubs back into the market.
