Vaynhanh.ai Uses Technology to Simplify the Search for Suitable Loan Options
The State Bank of Vietnam announced its credit growth targets for the entire sector in 2026 at around 15 percent, down sharply from the record growth rate of 19.01 percent expansion that crowned the country's banking system this year (VietnamNet, 2026), while total cashless transactions have exceeded more than one-third or about 34 percent so far this year (Nhan Dan Online, 2026). That dissonance is bringing additional Vietnamese debtors to seek credit loans, and they often carefully consider the difference between the loan amount and the repayment amount before going to a bank branch.Vietnam's Credit Market Turns Caution as Digital Borrowing Surges
As of June 2026, Vietnam's banking sector was estimated to have a total credit (outstanding balance) of approximately USD 759.5 billion, representing an increase of 7.41% from the end of last year and up on-year by about 18.1% (Nhan Dan Online, 2026). This is again just longer under a shorter leash; regulators' orders to banks: direct new lending resources towards production, exports and other priority setting whilst keeping several horses reined in with stiff growth further down the road among real estate & other higher risk exposure.
Even more rapidly, borrowing habits are changing in the opposite direction. Cumulative figures until May 2026 indicated that cashless payment transactions increased by 34.77 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, internet banking transaction volume increased by 52.82 percent, and QR code payments rose by nearly 40 percent in transaction value. More banking transactions take place on an owner's phone screen with one click than at a teller's window - and loan shopping has gone the same way: consumer loans, mortgages, credit cards, and digital bank accounts are now often inter-compared side by side rather than visit-to-branch.
That change increases the expense of haphazard evaluation. In July, police knocked down a loan-giving network pretending to be a pawn service provider that had granted 3.708 trillion dong in loans across nearly 739,000 transactions, during which the real annual interest of some loans stands at more than 13,500 percent (Vietstock, 2026) - a staggering figure higher than the Civil Code's ceiling of yearly interest rates of 20 percent. It is precisely those types of cases that help explain why regulators continue to drive borrowers to return repeatedly to a single question: what is your APR https://vaynhanh.ai/tools/apr-calculator and does it square with what the lender originally advertised?
The squeeze is not felt evenly. With banks instructed to channel new lending into production, exports and priority sectors, unsecured consumer credit - personal loans, credit cards and small-ticket instalment products - competes for a narrower slice of a pool that is itself growing more slowly. Applicants with thin credit files, informal or seasonal income, or no payroll record are usually the first to be declined, and they are also the least equipped to price whatever offer arrives next. That is the pipeline feeding cases like the one uncovered in July: a borrower turned away at a branch does not stop needing the money, and the next offer tends to arrive with a faster answer and no published fee schedule. Comparing terms before applying therefore matters most to the borrowers with the fewest alternatives.
Regulators have also begun giving the digital lending market a formal structure. Under a 2025 decree, approved companies may test alternative lending models inside a regulatory sandbox for a period of up to two years - an initial framework that lets authorities study these new online lending formats before permanent rules are written for them.
The harder task is legislating for a market that keeps outgrowing the rules written about it, and the clearest symptom of that lag is how easily borrowers still mistake a disguised loan shark for a licensed lender.
APR and the Advertised Rate Are Not the Same Number
Much of the confusion starts with how a rate is quoted. A lender advertising 1.5 percent a month on a 100 million dong loan repaid over twelve months collects about 18 million dong in interest, and 18 percent a year is the figure most borrowers hear. That calculation, however, charges interest on the full 100 million for the whole term, even though the balance falls with every instalment. Measured against what is actually outstanding, the same contract works out closer to 33 percent a year. Neither number is dishonest; they answer different questions. The advertised rate describes how the interest was calculated; the annual percentage rate describes what the borrower ends up paying.
Fees widen the gap further. Details such as arrangement and valuation fees taken off the amount actually borrowed, combined insurance premiums and early repayment charges add to the overall bill without shifting the headline number - hence why two loans with identical numbers can act very differently once their repayment windows are laid out. The latter has legal implications as well: the 20 percent-per-year ceiling in the civil code is the only ceiling against which a borrower can judge. It is the fact that you compare products on APR, as long as all compulsory fees have been included, which levels the playing field for offers from different lenders.
Vaynhanh.ai: A Tool for Comparing True Loan Costs
That question was the premise for Vaynhanh.ai, an online comparison site founded in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025. It compares consumer loans, credit cards, and bank accounts from over 40 licensed financial institutions, juxtaposing them in terms of annual percentage rate rather than the advertised headline rate.
Since launch, more than 9,500 users have used the platform. Vaynhanh.ai does not lend money, hold funds, or collect debts itself. The partner listing feature includes license verification badges that a user can further verify themselves directly with the central bank authorities before registering anywhere.
Vaynhanh.ai's CEO said: "This year, as banks steer a narrower, more cautious pathway for credit, the gap between an advertised rate and the actual annual percentage rate is going to matter more. All products listed on our platform have to be verified what's actually stated in the partner's loan contract and published fee schedule to ensure the absolute clarity, transparency and safety for both borrowers and lenders. This is the most important, required and top factor which we always keep at our highest priority."
The comparison is not a replacement for a lender's own underwriting. Both must adhere to the credit check process, the credit institution's policies and approval criteria. Vaynhanh.ai does not imply, accelerate or impact that decision in any way. The platform earns referral and placement fees from partner institutions, not fees charged to borrowers, and says commercial relationships do not influence the ranking of products. Borrowers should still read the entire loan contract (including prepayment and late fee provisions), and before signing anything, check a lender's license directly with the central bank.
However, none of that changes the amount of money Vietnamese people are aiming for throughout 2026. Credit is returning, but less quickly and more circumspectly than in 2025, digital deals are climbing faster than credit itself, and the clearest way to tell an affordable loan from an expensive one is still the annual percentage rate.
