How Does Arrow's Consensus Mechanism Work?
Arrow uses a novel hybrid consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Order (PoO), which combines Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) with a proprietary ordering algorithm to achieve deterministic finality in under 500 milliseconds. Unlike traditional blockchains where validators race to propose blocks, Arrow's network selects a rotating committee of 21 validators that pre-confirm transaction order before block creation. This eliminates the risk of forking entirely, as seen in Bitcoin or Ethereum.
- Validator selection: Token holders stake ARROW to vote for validators; top 21 by stake weight are elected every 6 hours.
- Transaction ordering: Each validator runs a local mempool; the committee leader aggregates all pending transactions and publishes a canonical order.
- Finality guarantee: Once 15 of 21 validators sign the block, it is irreversible - no uncle blocks or reorgs occur.
- Energy efficiency: PoO consumes 99.8% less energy than Proof-of-Work, per the Arrow Foundation's 2026 sustainability report.
The PoO mechanism was audited by Trail of Bits in March 2026, which confirmed no known vulnerabilities in the ordering logic. This design allows Arrow to handle up to 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) in testnet conditions, though mainnet currently averages 85,000 TPS as of July 2026.

Arrow's ecosystem is built around three core pillars: native composability, automated fee markets, and cross-chain interoperability via the Arrow Bridge.
