The Typing Hub Brings Per-Second Speed Tracking and Consistency Scoring to a Free Typing Test

Every completed run returns net words per minute, raw words per minute, characters per minute, keystroke accuracy and a consistency score. Net speed counts only characters that matched the passage. Consistency is the metric with no settled industry definition, so The Typing Hub publishes its own. Typing speed is sampled once per second throughout a run. The standard deviation of that series is divided by its mean to produce a coefficient of variation, which is then inverted onto a scale from zero to one hundred. Steady typing approaches one hundred, while a run built from bursts between pauses can fall below sixty even at a strong average speed. "Most people plateau because they are watching the wrong number," said founder of The Typing Hub. "Consistency and accuracy are the two things a typist can actually control on the next attempt. Speed is what happens when both improve."

Each timed run also produces a graph of the per-second speed series, with the typist's personal best for that length drawn in as a reference, and a character by character review identifying which keys cost time.

Accuracy is recorded at the moment each key is pressed rather than measured against the finished text, so corrections remain visible in the score. The approach is deliberately stricter than tests that grade the final passage, and the site states as much rather than reporting a more flattering figure.

Six test lengths are available, from thirty to three hundred seconds, alongside an untimed free run that is recorded but never ranked. Passages are drawn from the two hundred most common English words and reshuffled for each attempt, keeping repeat runs comparable.

The service carries no advertising and requires no registration. Results are stored automatically in the visitor's browser, and an optional Google sign-in moves that history to an account for cross-device access and leaderboard eligibility.
