A man based on the real Benny Nchabeleng, whose guidance introduced the author to township life at a time when interracial friendships carried enormous personal risk. Their bond became the foundation for experiences that included witnessing protests firsthand, surviving violent police crackdowns, finding refuge in black communities, and discovering a South Africa hidden from much of the country's white population.

The story also reflects the author's firsthand experiences promoting black artists, DJing at the popular Black nightclub Easy By Night, where he became known by the nickname "Concolo", meaning concrete, and working alongside the colorful personalities who defined Sunshine Music during one of the industry's most remarkable periods.
