Noah Labs Brings Secure AI to Mission-Critical Defense Software

The company's flagship product, Sentinel, is an AI-native development environment designed to operate locally within air-gapped or disconnected networks. Noah Labs' approach is detailed in its thesis, "Autonomy: On Autonomous Software Operators." The paper introduces Autonomous Software Operators, or ASOs, as bounded AI agents that can assist with software modernization, security analysis, verification, documentation, and compliance-evidence generation.

The thesis states, "That speed is not an excuse to abandon judgment. It is the reason judgment must be built into the pipeline rather than bolted on afterward."

Under the proposed model, AI agents operate within defined permissions, apply machine-checkable policies, maintain records of their actions, and stop at approval gates when human authorization is required. Engineers and operators retain the ability to inspect, reject, override, or reverse proposed changes.

This model addresses a growing challenge for mission-driven organizations. Electronic-warfare behaviors, cybersecurity patches, autonomy logic, and other operational capabilities increasingly depend on software, yet the processes used to modify, test, authorize, and deploy that software often remain slow and labor-intensive.

According to Noah Labs, Sentinel combines large-codebase context, multi-step agent workflows, software analysis, verification tools, cybersecurity checks, explicit code differences, and human review controls. Target environments include legacy systems written in C, C++, Ada, Fortran, COBOL, and Rust.

Initial applications include modernizing safety-critical code, identifying vulnerabilities, proposing patches, generating compliance documentation, and keeping review evidence connected to each software change. Sentinel is being positioned for pilot use by defense, federal, and regulated-enterprise teams.
