Code 8.01-44.5:1, that expressly permits punitive damages in civil cases arising from felony hit-and-run accidents. Before this law, Virginia did not provide an express statutory punitive-damages remedy specifically for felony hit-and-run flight. "This closes a real gap," Gibson explains.
