PrivacyScrubber Launches Zero-Trust Local MCP Server

PrivacyScrubber, a leader in client-side data protection, today announced the release of its new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, bringing zero-trust PII (Personally Identifiable Information) sanitization to local AI developer workflows. The privacyscrubber-mcp server enables software engineers and organizations to integrate advanced language models and AI coding assistants directly with local codebases and databases without risking the leakage of sensitive data, credentials, or proprietary information.

As AI-assisted coding and development tools become standard across the industry, developers are increasingly sharing local files, database schemas, and system logs with third-party LLMs (Large Language Models). This exposes organizations to significant data privacy risks, compliance violations, and potential intellectual property leakage. To address this critical security gap, PrivacyScrubber has extended its zero-server data protection framework to the local desktop environment via the new MCP server.

Built on the open Model Context Protocol developed by Anthropic, the PrivacyScrubber MCP server acts as an intelligent intermediary between local developer environments (such as VS Code or Cursor) and the AI models processing the prompts. The server automatically detects and redacts name, email, phone number, credentials, and custom user-defined entity patterns before they are sent to the AI, replacing them with safe placeholders. When the AI returns a response, the server seamlessly restores the original values locally in the developer's workspace.

The core technology behind the new release follows PrivacyScrubber's signature Zero-Trust Data Sanitization (ZTDS) model. Unlike traditional security tools that rely on cloud APIs or server-side databases for pattern matching and redaction, the PrivacyScrubber MCP server operates 100% locally in the user's browser memory or local machine memory. It makes zero external API requests and does not transmit any user data or prompt contents to external servers. This architecture ensures complete compliance with global regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 by guaranteeing that PII never leaves the local environment.

"Our goal with the PrivacyScrubber MCP server is to empower developers to use the full potential of AI coding assistants without compromising their organization's security posture or violating strict privacy policies," said Ilya Sibiryakov, Founder and Chief Architect of PrivacyScrubber. "By running all detection and masking operations purely client-side and locally on the developer's machine, we are eliminating the server-side vulnerability entirely. Developers can now run their AI tools in what we call Airplane Mode, confident that their sensitive credentials, client emails, and proprietary names are fully protected."

The PrivacyScrubber MCP server is available immediately to users of the PrivacyScrubber ecosystem. The tool is designed to work out of the box with popular LLM client implementations and can be easily configured to apply customized regex rules for proprietary formats or industry-specific data categories. The server is part of the PrivacyScrubber platform, which also offers web-based text sanitization, offline PDF and OCR redaction, and a flat-rate Teams dashboard for team-wide security configurations.
