A Three-Act Opera Built from House Music Is Looking for Its Visual Identity

International open call invites artists and designers to shape the visual world of House Opera - Electric Nights

Can the dancefloor become an opera stage?
House Opera - Electric Nights is a self-funded three-act electronic opera that explores that question through the language of house music and contemporary club culture. Instead of an orchestra, the work is driven by the pulse of the kick drum. Instead of a traditional choir, voices are cut, layered, looped and transformed into a new kind of collective vocal expression.
Created by an artist working under the name cnc, the project approaches the dancefloor as a modern ritual space-a place where people gather to connect, escape, resist, celebrate and transform.
"Opera was once a place where communities gathered around the great emotions, conflicts and questions of their time. Today, I recognize a similar energy on the dancefloor. People come to escape, connect, lose control or reclaim it. In many ways, it is theatre-just in a different form."
Developed entirely outside institutional and commercial structures, House Opera has been produced without the backing of record labels, investors or arts organizations. Every artistic decision has remained in the hands of the creators and collaborators involved.
The project brings together singers from Colombia, Argentina, Germany, Italy and Poland, all performing in English. While the international dimension was never a planned objective, it emerged organically as artists from different countries joined the work and found a common creative language.
With the music completed, the project is now entering its next phase: the creation of a visual identity.
An international open call is inviting artists, illustrators, designers and visual creators from all disciplines to develop the album cover and broader visual system that will accompany the project across digital releases, printed materials and stage projections.
"Club culture already has its own rituals: repetition, anticipation and release. I built this opera around that logic rather than in spite of it. For the visual identity, I'm not looking for an illustration of the music. I'm interested in someone else's interpretation of what has emerged."
The call is open until 31 July 2026.
The selected artist will receive a €400 commission, retain full copyright ownership of the work, and become part of the album's official release, media campaign and future exhibitions connected to the project.
Submissions will be reviewed by a jury consisting of Maja Šimić, Leonarda Kurtov and Kristina Banden, with entries evaluated on conceptual strength, originality and artistic quality.
