Model Citisin releases "Letters" on July 17th: An epic indie rock ballad
UNITED KINGDOM - June 26, 2026 - UK indie rock band Model Citisin return with their sixth single, "Letters," released on Friday, July 17, 2026, across all major streaming platforms, with a Spotify pre-release scheduled for July 10, 2026.
An epic yet melancholic indie rock ballad.
From the start, frontman Nick Swettenham originally began writing "Letters" as a reflection of modern consumption. As the song evolved, he found himself drawing on more personal experiences, with memories of his grandmother's battle with dementia and mental health influencing a subtle lyrical change in the second chorus.
Although several future releases had already been planned, "Letters" resonated so strongly during the writing process that it was fast-tracked for a summer 2026 release. The result is a powerful and emotionally charged song that balances soaring melodies with deeply personal storytelling.
The single features Nick Swettenham on vocals and guitars, his brother Jamie Swettenham on drums, and longtime school friend Nick Granville on bass.
Accompanying the release are two exclusive B-sides: an acoustic teaser version of the band's forthcoming single, "Take Me Back," alongside a stripped-back vocal and piano rendition of "Letters." The latter features 15-year-old pianist Joseph Syed, recently awarded Musician of the Year at Kingston Academy, whose piano performance brings a fresh emotional dimension to the track.
Music runs deep within the Swettenham family. Nick's father, Geoff, and uncle Peter were part of the vibrant late-1960s British rock scene as founding members of Grapefruit, the psychedelic band signed by The Beatles in 1968 and famously named by John Lennon. That musical heritage continues today through Model Citisin, drawing inspiration from a rich family history rooted in songwriting and rock music.
"Letters" will be available on all major streaming platforms on July 17, 2026.
