About the book:"Birth Abuse" condemns prevalent abuses in perinatal care, and demands radical reform of the way we care for all those having or trying to have babies. This challenging view of perinatal treatment may be painful reading for clients and threatening for caregivers.
Caregivers like to think they offer sensitive and expert clinical care, but perinatal practice is often abusive. It includes physical, emotional, or sexual assaults, and inadequate evidence-based treatment. Abuse is far more common than we ever wanted to imagine.
This book will appeal to anybody connected to maternity and newborn care, including both parents and caregivers, along with academics, researchers, educators and influencers in areas related to pregnancy, birth, parenting, healthcare, abuse, and discrimination.

About the authors:
Dr. Beverley Chalmers has dedicated her life to studying experiences of birth and sexuality in difficult social, political, economic and religious environments. Her books on women's and children's experiences during the Holocaust have won over 30 book awards.
Dr. Dana Solomon is an academic, artist, and entrepreneur. Her career focuses on understanding, opposing, and eliminating racism, prejudice, and bigotry, working towards equity and inclusion. She is also a theatre artist, with experience in Canada and the UK as a playwright, performer, director, stage manager, technician, and designer. She created the theory, practice, and evaluated the efficacy of Ideologically Challenging Entertainment (ICE) - an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge exchange (Kx) described in her book Ideological Battlegrounds (2019) that challenges divisive, oppressive views associated with prejudice, racism, and ideological conflict.
