Canada Publishes Changes to Toys Regulations
These changes include:
• Definitions of “Good Scientific Practices” and “Human Experience Data”
• Editorial changes to Section 7 ‘Small Parts’. There are no changes to the requirements
• Simplifying and clarifying Sections 26 and 27
• Removal of Section 43 and Schedule 9 concerning out-of-date battery technology
• Schedule 2 and 3 amendments – relating to ways of determining a product is toxic
It should be noted that the changes to Sections 26 and 27 include the removal of a reference to Phthalates Regulations (SOR/2016-188) but this regulation is still in force and still applies to toys.
SOR/2016-302 was published on November 25, 2016, updating Toys Regulations SOR/2011-17.
