Call for Peace - Because War Is a Scandal!

"Shalom, Salaam, Peace: Finally make real what you've all been talking about!"

_The Federal Executive Committee of the _OeDP_ adopts a call for world peace and urges religious leaders in Germany to advocate for it: "Because war is a scandal!"_

_(Wuerzburg/Berlin) - _In a "Call for Peace," the Federal Chairman of the _Ecological Democratic Party (OeDP - The Nature Conservation Party)_ addresses the leaders of religious communities in Germany in a personal letter. In his letter to "Jews, Christians, and Muslims of all nations," Guenther Brendle-Behnisch cites the motion unanimously adopted by the entire Federal Executive Committee of the _OeDP_ to take the "powers that be" seriously. He appeals for words to finally be followed by deeds: "We call on you: End the wars for which you bear responsibility! Fulfill your responsibility; reach out to one another!"

Wars bring "devastation and destroy the lives of many poor and innocent people; and even when they do not kill, they destroy the lives and destinies of countless people and families," the OeDP appeal states. "Shalom, Salaam, Peace--each of these religions cites the word 'peace' as a crucial key term for itself and calls it the fulfillment of its religion. And each brings endless suffering upon the others--that is a scandal!" the OeDP urges religious education teachers in Germany to finally stand up for and advocate peace.

All those who support the initiative can sign the call for world peace. As many signatories as possible will give the call for peace greater weight.

Call for Peace

Jews, Christians, and Muslims of all nations, unite!

There is war in Ukraine, there is war in Gaza, war in Lebanon, war in Iran, and war in the Arab countries. These wars bring endless suffering to the people who live there. The bombs, missiles, drones... every single one brings devastation and destroys the lives of many poor and innocent people; and even if they do not kill, they destroy the lives and destinies of countless people and families.

Is it not a scandal, then, that all the leaders of these wars call themselves believers, imagining a God above them who desires well-being and peace on earth? Shalom, Salaam, Peace--each of these religions cites the word "peace" as a crucial keyword for itself and calls it the fulfillment of its religion. And each brings endless suffering upon the others.

Yes, it is a scandal! And for their own political and military interests, these powerful people accept the suffering of millions of people! THAT is unbearable! How can they claim that their cause is just!? How can they even invoke God and their faith to justify it? It is not God's will that people kill one another, that they make each other's lives a living hell.

We of the Abrahamic religions--the religions of the Book--still make up the majority of the world's population, and we have the right to be heard.

That is why this appeal goes out to you:

Jews, Christians, and Muslims--and we welcome members of other religions and atheists as well: All peace-loving people of this world--stand up and demand peace! War must not be a means of solving problems. For heaven's sake, there must be no war!
Stand in solidarity with us and with all who are peace-loving and of good will!

Let us pray for this--each according to their own religion and in their own way--that peace on earth may finally be established, and that the people and nations of this world may finally live together on this planet in peace and mutual goodwill, sharing the gifts of creation for the good of this world!

You, the world's leaders,

We call upon you: End the wars for which you bear responsibility! Finally take your responsibility seriously; reach out to one another! Stop the wars immediately, declare a permanent ceasefire, and uphold it, for it is the first step on the path to peace! Sit down together and negotiate until you have found good solutions for the people and nations, and finally turn this into true peace! Stop sacrificing countless human lives and resolve your problems in a different, peaceful way!
