Hospitality Design Is Entering a Digital-First Era
Image: https://www.abnewswire.com/upload/2026/05/31083ff4b08c090b06b3e7fe0028c542.jpgTraditional hospitality design workflows are becoming increasingly expensive, inefficient, and difficult to scale as hotel developers face growing pressure to accelerate project delivery while reducing unnecessary operational costs.
Repeated site visits, physical mock-up rooms, excessive material sampling, fragmented communication, and lengthy revision cycles continue to slow down projects across the hospitality industry, often creating delays, waste, and costly decision-making processes.
Hospitality design consultant and Virtualistic Interiors Founder & CEO Elise Kotelnikova believes the industry is entering a major digital transformation, where Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, advanced visualization, and remote collaboration systems will redefine how hospitality projects are designed, reviewed, and delivered.
Speaking at the Global Hotel Innovation Summit in Malaysia, Kotelnikova presented how AI-driven workflows, immersive 360 degrees VR walkthroughs, digital FF&E coordination, and advanced 3D visualization can reduce delays, improve communication, accelerate approvals, and streamline hospitality development at scale.
"Hospitality projects are becoming more global, more complex, and more time-sensitive," Kotelnikova said during her presentation. "Technology is changing how teams communicate, collaborate, review, and execute projects."
According to Kotelnikova, traditional hotel development often depends on outdated processes that create unnecessary waste and inefficiency across design and procurement stages.
"Mock-up rooms take time and capital. Physical samples create waste. Repeated site visits extend timelines and increase the carbon footprint," she explained during the summit presentation.
Rather than replacing creativity, Kotelnikova argues that technology should eliminate repetitive operational work so designers, developers, and hotel operators can focus more on strategy, guest experience, and decision-making.
"Technology should handle repetitive processes so humans can focus on creativity, innovation, and creating better experiences," she said.
Through Virtualistic Interiors, Kotelnikova works internationally across hospitality, residential, and large-scale development projects, combining interior design, AI workflows, Virtual Reality, and direct FF&E procurement sourcing.
The topic gained strong attention during the summit as hospitality leaders discussed increasing pressure to accelerate development timelines while improving operational efficiency and reducing construction costs.
Kotelnikova believes firms that successfully combine creativity with scalable digital systems will help define the future of hospitality development.
"The hospitality industry is entering a digital-first era," she said. "The companies that adapt early will have a significant competitive advantage."
