China Implements New Industry Standard for Children’s Leather Shoes

On January 1, 2017, China implemented a new industrial standard for children’s leather shoes - QB/T 2880-2016. The new standard, replacing QB/T 2880-2007, applies to leather shoes for children and infants who are not older than 14 years old. In addition, the standard only applies to shoes to a maximum size of 250.

The new version of the industry standard includes several changes to the requirements for:

• Appearance quality
• Flexing resistance
• Abrasion resistance
• Peeling strength
• Hardness of outsole
• Adhesion strength between outsole and midsole
• Pull-out strength of upper-sole
• Flexing index of shoes fiberboard
• Color fastness to rubbing of lining and insock
• Flexing resistance of upper material at low temperature
• Safety properties

Two of these changes to QB/T 2880 are completely new test requirements:

• Pull-out strength of upper-sole
• Safety properties

In addition, mandatory standard GB 30585 has been added as a normative reference.

Stakeholders should be aware that the new version of QB/T 2880 has already come into effect and it is important that all products now meet the new industry standard in terms of labeling and technical requirements in order to legally comply with Chinese rules.
