David VanGorden is running for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 against incumbent Kristine Scott and candidate DeJonae Shaw.

Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 candidate David VanGorden says voters deserve transparency, accountability, and issue-based campaigning rather than repeated political attack mailers.
As political campaign mailers continue to flood mailboxes across San Bernardino County, Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 candidate David VanGorden is speaking out against what he describes as the growing use of smear tactics in local politics.

VanGorden, a retired law enforcement professional with more than 30 years of experience, says residents are becoming increasingly frustrated with campaigns focused more on attacking opponents than explaining qualifications, solutions, and vision.

"In my opinion, voters are intelligent enough to research candidates and make their own decisions," said VanGorden. "If a campaign spends most of its time attacking another candidate instead of clearly explaining why they are the best choice, residents should ask themselves why."

VanGorden's comments come amid a series of campaign mailers reportedly distributed by Rancho Cucamonga District 3 Council Member Ryan Hutchison targeting San Bernardino County Controller candidate Ensen Mason.

According to VanGorden, many residents are growing tired of increasingly negative political campaigns and want candidates to focus instead on issues such as public safety, homelessness, traffic congestion, infrastructure, fiscal accountability, and responsible development.

VanGorden also encouraged voters to independently verify political claims rather than simply accepting campaign messaging at face value.

"Residents should always look deeper," VanGorden stated. "Research matters. Experience matters. Transparency matters. Public office is too important for voters to make decisions based solely on attack mailers or slogans."

VanGorden noted that public records and business filings are available for voters who wish to independently review candidate backgrounds and qualifications.

"In today's world, information is available to everyone," he said. "I believe residents should ask questions, verify claims, and look at the complete picture before casting their vote."

VanGorden emphasized that although he is running for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 against incumbent Kristine Scott and candidate DeJonae Shaw, he believes city leaders should be concerned about the entire community, not just their own districts.

"If elected, I will represent all residents of Rancho Cucamonga," VanGorden said. "People are frustrated because they feel unheard. They want accessibility, honesty, and common sense back in local government."

VanGorden also reiterated that his campaign will not participate in smear tactics or personal attacks.

"My campaign is about residents, not retaliation," he said. "I would rather spend my time discussing solutions than attacking people."

As campaign season intensifies across Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino County, VanGorden says he hopes voters will reject negativity and instead support candidates willing to engage in open, fact-based discussions about the future of their communities.
