DataMesh Joins AOUSD to Advance Industrial OpenUSD Semantics

SINGAPORE, May 2026 - DataMesh has officially joined the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD), participating in the standardization of OpenUSD for industrial digital twins, simulation, and Physical AI workflows.
As industrial organizations build increasingly complex digital environments, the need for interoperable, semantically rich, and simulation-ready 3D assets continues to grow. OpenUSD provides an open foundation for composing and exchanging 3D scenes, while AOUSD brings together ecosystem partners to promote standardization and interoperability across industries.
DataMesh brings practical experience from real-world industrial digital twin projects to this ecosystem, with a focus on industrial OpenUSD semantics and SimReady Asset workflows. These efforts are intended to help industrial assets evolve beyond visual 3D models into reusable digital objects that can support simulation, AI reasoning, robotics training, and operational decision-making.

Advancing Industrial Semantics for Digital Twins
Industrial digital twins are moving beyond modeling and visualization. Manufacturing companies, energy operators, and facility teams have accumulated large volumes of CAD files, BIM data, point clouds, 3D scenes, equipment models, and project-specific digital twin assets. The next challenge is making these assets understandable, reusable, and operational across systems.
In industrial environments, a digital asset must represent more than geometry and appearance. A pump, for example, may need to include equipment type, operating state, upstream and downstream relationships, valve connections, sensor points, maintenance cycles, fault modes, and energy parameters. A robotic workcell may need to include robot body data, end-effector context, workpiece state, path constraints, collision boundaries, safety zones, human-machine collaboration rules, and process actions.
This semantic layer defines what an object is, how it connects to other objects, what constraints apply, what state it is in, and which workflows it can support. With this structure, industrial assets can move from static 3D scenes into simulation systems, AI Agent workflows, robot training environments, and operational systems.

From Visual Assets to SimReady Assets
SimReady Assets provide a framework for representing digital objects with the properties, behaviors, and data connections required for simulation-ready workflows. For industrial teams, the practical goal is to express 3D assets and digital twins with real-world context so they can be used across simulation environments, AI systems, and robotics applications.
DataMesh is working with NVIDIA and the broader ecosystem on industrial SimReady Asset workflows that organize source materials from CAD, BIM, 3D models, and scan data into five practical layers:
• Geometry
• Semantics
• Physics
• Behavior
• Data Bindings
These layers allow assets to support simulation, robot training, synthetic data generation, layout validation, process rehearsal, state monitoring, fault analysis, and AI Agent reasoning.

FactVerse Captures Industrial Semantics, Behavior, and Data Connections
In the DataMesh FactVerse platform, industrial objects can carry geometry, materials, equipment attributes, spatial relationships, physical constraints, behavior logic, and real-time data connections. Once an object enters FactVerse, it can be recognized as an equipment class, process node, operating state, or maintenance object, making the same object useful for simulation, operational decision support, and AI-driven review.
This is where industrial OpenUSD differs from generic 3D asset exchange. Industrial scenarios require stable, extensible, and reusable ways to represent equipment names, object IDs, function classes, process relationships, sensor mappings, behavior states, and safety constraints.
As programs scale across plants, production lines, suppliers, and systems, shared semantics and reusable asset libraries can help reduce repeated work such as renaming equipment, remapping points, reinterpreting process relationships, and rebuilding simulation rules.

Building an Industrial Digital Foundation for Physical AI
As Physical AI moves into manufacturing, energy, facility operations, and robotics, digital twins are becoming a shared environment for AI training, simulation validation, field decision-making, and robotics execution.
