The Coleman Law Group is based in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Attorney Constance D. Coleman founded the group, and her reasons for doing so go back to something that happened long before she ever thought about running her own practice.
Constance started out in the public defender's office. She then moved to the prosecutor's office. Those early years gave her a clear picture of how the justice system works and, more importantly, how it affects people who are trying to get through some of the hardest moments of their lives. Then her brother was killed in a motorcycle accident. After that, the direction of her career shifted. She wanted to represent accident victims. She also wanted to work with immigrant families who were trying to build something real in this country. Those two things became the foundation of what The Coleman Law Group is today.

Constance earned her law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law. She is recognized by Super Lawyers and Avvo, and she is listed with the Florida Bar. She has described her approach to practice as coming from "a heart for people," and anyone who has worked with her would tell you that is accurate.

The Attorneys at The Coleman Law Group
The group has two Of Counsel attorneys alongside Constance. Each one focuses on a specific area of law and brings a background that is directly relevant to the clients they serve.
Gian-Franco Melendez is from Tampa Bay. He attended Stetson University College of Law and has stayed in this region throughout his career. He speaks English and Spanish. For clients who are going through an immigration process and are more comfortable in Spanish, this changes things considerably. They can ask questions. They can follow what is happening in their case. They do not have to depend on anyone else to translate or explain. Gian-Franco is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He has served in leadership positions at the Hillsborough County Bar Association and the Pinellas Latin Bar Association. He did not start out in immigration law. His early career was in workers' compensation and employment rights. Working in those areas before immigration gave him a real sense of what it looks like when legal systems create problems for working people rather than solving them.

Maurine A. Thomas handles family law for the group. She was admitted to the Florida Bar on May 9, 2005. In the years since, she has not practiced anything other than family law. She attended Stetson University College of Law, where she focused on family law. After graduating, she worked at Legal Aid, served as a Guardian ad Litem, and built a private practice. She has worked on divorce cases, custody disputes, child support, timesharing, and modifications throughout her career. Clients dealing with those matters are not working with someone who handles family law among ten other things. They are working with someone who has spent nearly twenty years on nothing else.

Services and Where They Are Available
The immigration practice is available to clients in Florida, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and California.
On the family based immigration side, the group handles K1 fiancé visas, spousal visas, immediate relative petitions, family preference visas, child and stepchild petitions, adjustment of status, consular processing, and waivers of inadmissibility. The group also takes on employment based immigration cases, citizenship and naturalization, and humanitarian relief, including VAWA self petitions. Clients who have questions about payment can ask about flexible plans the group has available.

Personal injury cases are handled exclusively for Florida residents. The group accepts cases in Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville, Hialeah, Hollywood, and Pembroke Pines. Automobile accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle and scooter accidents, rideshare accidents, boat accidents, bicycle accidents, and slip and fall cases all fall within the practice. Clients do not pay any legal fees unless their case is won.

Family law services are available to residents of Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Sarasota. The group handles dissolution of marriage, child custody and timesharing, child support, mediation, and high asset divorce. Consultations for family law and personal injury matters are free.

Beyond language, the attorneys here have direct personal connections to the work they do. Constance represents accident victims in part because she lost her brother in a motorcycle crash.
