Michael K. Owino Awarded Caravaggio Prize and Selected for Museum Exhibition in Rome

Copenhagen-based contemporary artist Michael K. Owino was awarded the International Caravaggio Prize during the official ceremony held in Madrid on May 5, 2026.

The Caravaggio Prize recognizes artists whose work demonstrates a strong visual language and engagement with themes such as light, narrative, and human presence, reflecting the legacy of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and his influence on contemporary artistic expression.

Following this recognition, Owino will participate in the museum exhibition "Bloom: visions of renewal", held at the Fondazione Venanzo Crocetti Museum in Rome (Via Cassia 492, 00189 Rome, Italy), from June 20 to July 1, 2026.

The exhibition brings together contemporary artists whose works explore transformation, renewal, and layered visual narratives within an institutional context. For Owino, the invitation to participate in this project represents a continuation of his focus on visual storytelling and the exploration of emotional and human-centered narratives.

Owino's work focuses on visual storytelling through mixed media and figurative compositions, exploring human relationships, memory, and emotional structure. His practice centers on the image as a direct form of communication, bridging narrative and visual form.
