One of the biggest industry secrets in the robotaxi world is that they aren't actually autonomous. When a self-driving car gets confused by a complex road diversion, an unpredictable child, or a simple technical glitch, it phones a friend.
Recent reports have highlighted a startling reality:

The Shadow Driver: Many autonomous vehicles rely on remote operators located thousands of miles away to intervene.
The Lag Factor: Having an operator in a different time zone trying to navigate a local street via a video feed introduces dangerous data lag and cybersecurity risks.
The Zippe Difference: We don't believe in remote assistance.

If a situation arises on the road, our drivers are right there in the seat. They are professionals with real-time situational awareness, a clear view of the road, and a valid DBS check, not a call centre worker halfway around the world.

Why Zippe Will Always Choose Human Drivers

Our founder, Daniel McIntyre, didn't start Zippe to build a better algorithm; he started it because he was an ex-Driver who saw the trade being devalued.
We aren't interested in the driverless model for three core reasons:

Dignity of Work: We believe in providing a fairer, more dignified platform for professional Drivers, not engineering them out of existence.
Safety & Judgment: Technology is a tool, not a replacement for human intuition. A computer can't read a pedestrian's body language or understand the nuances of a local shortcut like a human can.
Accountability: When you sit in a Zippe car, you know exactly who is responsible for your safety. There are no black box algorithms, just a licensed professional.

Choosing Community Over Code

The push for driverless taxis is driven by a desire to maximise profit by removing the cost of the human. At Zippe, we see the human as the value, not the cost.
We use technology to make your journey transparent and efficient, but the heart of the journey will always be human. We are choosing to invest in our local economy and our neighbours. While others focus on code, we are focusing on community, one human-led journey at a time.
