Omi partners with Pickle Space x Ohmybelly for "Match & Smash" mixer

Pickleball is no longer a niche hobby in Malaysia-it's quickly becoming a go-to social activity, and that shift is showing up clearly in how Malaysians are dating and making new connections.

Over the past six months, Omi has seen a 120% increase in "pickleball" mentions in users' Smart Tags in Malaysia-signaling a growing appetite for meeting through shared, real-world interests instead of relying solely on small talk and endless swiping. The rise isn't just about the sport itself; it reflects a broader preference for low-pressure ways to socialise where conversation can happen naturally, with something fun to do side by side.

To bring this digital trend into the real world, Omi recently hosted "Match & Smash," a social pickleball night at Pickle Space x Ohmybelly in Subang Jaya. With around 100 participants attending-from complete beginners to regular players-the event blended casual play with light, structured social moments, such as quick partner rotations and short breaks designed for introductions. The goal was simple: make it easier to meet new people without forcing conversation, and let shared play create instant common ground.

Malaysian influencer Nurhayati also shared her experience building friendships through Omi and the sport:
"I've met many friends to play pickleball with on Omi. I'm joining this event with friends I met on Omi too, and I hope more and more people will join our pickleball family."

Pickleball's appeal is simple: it's easy to pick up, naturally interactive, and social by default.
