Part-time degree program with weekend on-campus sessions in sustainability law ( (C) Leuphana/Merle Busch)

Part-time degree program with weekend on-campus sessions in sustainability law ( (C) Leuphana/Merle Busch)

Lueneburg. To address the climate crisis and advance the energy transition in a legally sound manner, in-depth expertise at the intersection of law, economics, and technology is required. The Professional School at Leuphana University Lueneburg offers the part-time Master in Sustainability Law - Energy Law - Resources Law (LL.M.). The program integrates legal expertise with current challenges such as decarbonization and the circular economy. The next cohort begins in October 2026; applications are accepted until July 31, 2026.

The three-semester LL.M. program covers the entire spectrum of modern environmental, energy, and resource protection law. In addition to the fundamentals of pollution control and nature conservation law, there is a special focus on highly topical issues such as renewable energy law (including hydrogen and offshore wind energy), grid regulation, and climate protection law. What sets this program apart is its interdisciplinary approach. Students not only acquire legal expertise but also gain in-depth insights into environmental sciences, economics, and technology, enabling them to holistically assess complex transformation processes.

The program is specifically tailored to the needs of working professionals. Classes are primarily held in person over a few weekends. In addition, there are individual online evening sessions as well as digital materials for self-study. This format allows for a good balance between studies and work while also fostering personal interaction with fellow students and instructors to build a professional network. The program is aimed at lawyers as well as graduates in economics, engineering, or environmental sciences who have at least one year of relevant professional experience. Those not seeking a full Master's degree may alternatively complete a certificate program in environmental law or energy law. A completed certificate can be credited toward the LL.M. program if enrolled later, and fees already paid will be taken into account.

Interested parties will have the opportunity to learn more about the program and the faculty during the Professional School's online information session on June 18, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Program coordinator Dr. Anna Lessmeister is available for individual consultations (nachhaltigkeitsrecht@leuphana.de, Tel. 04131.677-1304).
