Frankfurt am Main, April 17, 2026: As digitalization advances, invoices are increasingly sent electronically or processed directly in cloud-based platforms. While this improves efficiency and speed, it also creates new entry points for cybercriminals.

Through cyberattacks, Business Email Compromise (BEC), and phishing schemes, fraudsters are increasingly able to manipulate payment processes in a targeted manner.

Payment Diversion: Redirecting Payment Flows
Attackers are not primarily focused on creating fake invoices. Instead, they deliberately manipulate the bank details of existing suppliers in order to redirect payment flows.

This occurs through various methods: attackers may gain access to electronic invoice transmission channels and alter the stored bank details. In other cases, they infiltrate supplier networks, such as cloud-based procurement platforms, and change the bank account information directly.

The result: payments are unknowingly redirected to accounts controlled by fraudsters. Once a transfer has been initiated, for example for invoices or recurring payments, it is often difficult or impossible to recover.

In addition to direct financial losses, companies face increased manual effort, delays in supplier payments, and significant reputational risks.

Prevention: Consistent Validation of Bank Details
To counter these risks, companies, particularly in Accounts Payable, must strengthen their control mechanisms. A key factor is the immediate verification of any changes to bank details before payments are executed.

Real-Time IBAN Name Check
With the PreVOP solution from alseda Consulting, bank details can be validated in real time at the beginning of the payment process.

IBAN and account holder information are transmitted to the beneficiary's bank and automatically matched. The result is returned in real time.

In cases of fraud, discrepancies between the IBAN and account holder are identified before the payment is executed. This enables companies to effectively prevent so-called payment diversion, quickly, easily, and cost-efficiently.

Management Statement, Frank Bergmann, Managing Director at alseda Consulting, explains:
"Cyberattacks on payment processes are increasing significantly as digitalization progresses. Manipulated bank details resulting from phishing or BEC attacks represent a major risk. With our solution, we enable early validation of bank data and support finance and treasury teams in securing their payment processes."

Focus on SAP-Based Payment Processes
The PreVOP solution has been specifically developed for companies operating SAP-based payment processes. It integrates seamlessly into existing Procure-to-Pay and treasury workflows, strengthens security mechanisms, and does not disrupt established processes.

Particularly in the context of high-volume payments, supplier changes, and centralized payment structures, early validation helps reduce risks and increase transparency.
