Karen N. Marshall to Present "Bayou Bacon (The Hippo Bill)" at NSTA National Conference on Science Education

Anaheim, CA - April 15, 2026 - Karen N. Marshall, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Innovative STEM Solutions, will present at the National Conference on Science Education, hosted by the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), April 15-18 in Anaheim, California.

Marshall is recognized for advancing inquiry-based, real-world science learning and for challenging traditional classroom models that prioritize content over critical thinking.

At the conference, Marshall will present "Bayou Bacon (The Hippo Bill)", a real-world, phenomenon-based learning experience that brings environmental science, public policy, and student inquiry into the classroom. The session demonstrates how culturally relevant, place-based topics can drive deeper engagement while aligning with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

"Students don't need more information. They need opportunities to think, question, and explore," said Marshall. "Curiosity isn't a supplement to learning. It's the foundation."

With nearly 20 years of experience, Marshall has reached more than 50,000 students and 10,000 educators, helping schools adopt learning models grounded in investigation, inquiry, and real-world application.

As CEO of Innovative STEM Solutions, she partners with school systems, nonprofits, and national organizations to strengthen STEM curriculum, support educators, and expand access to high-quality science education. Her work includes collaborations with the American Heart Association's national Go Red STEM initiative, as well as prior leadership roles at Ripple Effect NOLA and the Louisiana Marine Consortium (LUMCON).

Marshall's contributions to science education have been recognized by the National Science Teaching Association, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Urban Conservancy of New Orleans. She has also served as a judge for the Aspen Challenge, presented by the Bezos Foundation.
