Balise Trading Pvt Ltd is an Africa-based, feminist, and mission-aligned research and evaluation practice with deep expertise in participatory grant making, facilitation, dialogue, mediation and movement-centred evaluation.

Our complexity-aware learning systems ensures that our work does not fall into the trap of false linearity or binaries but rather sits at the intersections of empowerment, gender justice, and flexible funding ecosystems, positioning us uniquely to assess actors contributions to both field- building and community-level transformation.

For 16 years, we have developed and designed a unique, solid perspective of how. to conduct research, generate knowledge and drive narrative based on authenticity, accuracy and skill rooted in expertise grounded in the contexts in which we operate.

What distinguishes our approach is our ability to move beyond conventional, conservative evaluation and research methods that are limiting, towards expansive dynamic strategic sense-making linking grassroots experience, ecosystem dynamics, and funder decision-making into actionable insights.

We are not only rigorous, we bring a strong and trusted of delivery in complex contexts that require nuance, sensitivity, resilience and tenacity.

In September 2025 we were awarded a US$ 30 000.00 contract to perform Kvinna till Kvinna's End of Term Liberia Impact evaluation for the Promotion of Women Economic Empowerment (POWER) programme, commissioned by SIDA.

From July 2024 to September 2025 we were awarded Womankind Worldwide UK's GBP 75000.00 contract to conduct a five country evaluation of Her Voice Fund for flexible funding to 46 formally registered and informal gender, feminist and women's rights groups in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

In April/May 2022, we performed rapid baseline study for HIVOS' Free to Be Me LGBTIQ programme that is supported by the Dutch Government, covering 14 countries in Africa and Asia, leading to the development of localised Communities of Action (COA) in the countries assessed.

In June/July 2022, we assessed the impacts of the German Government's BMZ Medica Mondiale's (mm) 1.3 million Euro, Strengthening the Autonomy of Community-based networks for the Prevention of and Protection against SGBV in Montserrado and Margibi Counties, Liberia project. Our report's findings and recommendations enabled medica Liberia (mL) to secure a second round of funding to deepen their impact.

In December 2020 we successfully led the final learning evaluation of ActionAid International's POWER UP initiative, which supported 19,600 young women and girls in Ghana, Bangladesh, and Rwanda.

Together with the Switzerland based group Paradigms, we led evaluations in Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa on the work of SAIH, funded by the Norwegian government's NORAD.
