Donna Buduson - Bryant & Stratton College Nursing Alum

Donna Buduson - Bryant & Stratton College Nursing Alum

While battling cancer, Donna Buduson refused to let her diagnosis define her future. Already a licensed practical nurse (LPN) with nearly 20 years of experience, Buduson chose to advance her career by earning an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing through Bryant & Stratton College and achieving her Registered Nurse (RN) license.

"Nursing taught me discipline; life taught me resilience," Buduson reflected, capturing the mindset that carried her through both rigorous academics and personal challenges. "I refused to let cancer or fear write the ending to my story."

Perseverance in the Face of Adversity

Buduson's journey highlights the realities of growing a nursing career while facing life-altering challenges. She described her classmates and faculty as her "second family," a support network that provided encouragement through the most difficult moments.

Her experience deepened her understanding of patient care: "It reinforced the importance of patient advocacy, holistic care, and compassion," she said. Buduson's story illustrates how personal adversity can strengthen empathy, a core attribute for experienced nurses advancing in their careers.

Turning Struggle Into Strength

Throughout her time in Bryant & Stratton College's nursing program (https://www.bryantstratton.edu/degrees/nursing/), Buduson overcame both the physical and emotional challenges of her illness while completing demanding coursework and clinical training. "It proved to me that I am stronger than my circumstances and capable of achieving goals even in the darkest seasons of life," she said.

Her perseverance serves as a reminder to all nurses that courage comes in many forms. "You don't have to be fearless - just brave enough to take the next step," Buduson advised. "Looking back, I'm grateful for the struggle," she said, explaining that she wouldn't wish her journey on anyone but is deeply thankful for who it helped her become.

Inspiring Nurses Across All Career Stages

Bryant & Stratton College (https://www.bryantstratton.edu/) champions not only academic excellence but also resilience, compassion, and practical skills needed for modern healthcare. Buduson's story exemplifies the qualities Bryant & Stratton College seeks to nurture in all nursing students, and that it's never too late to grow one's career, despite facing personal challenges and daunting obstacles.
