Acrylic Acid Price

Acrylic Acid Price

Acrylic acid prices moved lower across most major regions in FY25, with the market facing persistent pressure from weak demand, competitive supply conditions, and soft pricing sentiment through much of the year. The decline was broad-based, but the intensity varied from one region to another. Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South America, and North America all recorded quarter-on-quarter price drops across most or all of FY25. Europe was the only region that showed a more mixed pattern, with gains in Q2 and Q4 interrupting an otherwise cautious market environment.

That regional split matters because acrylic acid is used across a wide range of downstream industries, including coatings, adhesives, textiles, superabsorbent polymers, detergents, and water treatment chemicals. When these end-use sectors slow down or become cautious in procurement, acrylic acid pricing usually comes under pressure quickly. Feedstock movements, especially propylene, also play a major role in shaping producer margins and offer levels. The FY25 data reflects a market that remained under pressure overall, even though some regions showed better resilience than others.

Global direction of the acrylic acid market in FY25

The most visible theme in FY25 was broad price erosion. In four out of five listed regional markets, acrylic acid prices ended the year significantly below where they started. Some regions experienced gradual declines across all four quarters, while others saw sharper drops concentrated in the middle of the year. This suggests that the market was not hit by a single short-lived shock. It was dealing with a longer stretch of soft demand and competitive pricing.

The pressure was especially visible in North America and South America, where the year-on-year direction was clearly negative and the second half brought additional weakness. Northeast Asia also faced a steep correction, particularly in Q3. Southeast Asia showed a more orderly decline, with quarter-on-quarter weakness throughout the year but without the kind of abrupt crash seen elsewhere. Europe stood apart by showing a more balanced and resilient pattern.

From a pricing perspective, FY25 was a year of adjustment. Buyers stayed cautious, suppliers had limited room to push through increases, and the market repeatedly struggled to sustain upward momentum.

Southeast Asia acrylic acid price trend in FY25

Southeast Asia followed a steady downward path through all four quarters of FY25. Prices started at USD 0.996/KG in Q1 2025 and then slipped to USD 0.975/KG in Q2, a 2.1% decline. The weakening continued in Q3, where prices dropped to USD 0.946/KG, down another 3.0%. In Q4, the market eased further to USD 0.925/KG, posting a 2.2% decline.

This sequence shows a market under constant but controlled pressure. There was no dramatic collapse in any one quarter, but the downward movement was persistent enough to pull prices lower throughout the year. That kind of pattern often reflects moderate oversupply, soft downstream demand, and a lack of urgency among buyers.

Southeast Asia's pricing remained among the lower bands in the dataset, which also points to a competitive market structure. Buyers likely had multiple sourcing options, and suppliers may have needed to stay aggressive on pricing to protect volumes. The uninterrupted sequence of declines suggests that recovery signals were either absent or too weak to change market direction.

Northeast Asia acrylic acid price trend in FY25

Northeast Asia also moved downward through the year, but its decline became much sharper in the middle of FY25. Prices began at USD 1.013/KG in Q1 and slipped slightly to USD 0.995/KG in Q2, down 1.8%. Up to that point, the market looked soft but manageable.

Q3 changed the tone. Prices fell sharply to USD 0.881/KG, a steep 11.5% quarter-on-quarter decline. In Q4, the market remained weak, slipping again to USD 0.874/KG, down another 0.8%.

The large Q3 correction suggests a significant imbalance emerged in the region, likely tied to oversupply, soft downstream demand, or both. Northeast Asia plays a major role in regional chemical trade, so when pricing weakens substantially there, it often reflects broader market pressure across the value chain.

What stands out is that the market did not recover after the Q3 fall. Q4 remained negative, even if the decline slowed. That suggests the region entered year-end without meaningful pricing support. Northeast Asia ended FY25 well below its starting point and with one of the weakest second-half performances in the dataset.

South America acrylic acid price trend in FY25

South America started FY25 at a relatively firmer level but lost momentum quickly as the year progressed. Prices were USD 1.224/KG in Q1 and slipped only marginally to USD 1.218/KG in Q2, a 0.5% decline. That small movement suggested the market was relatively stable in the early part of the year.

The picture changed sharply in Q3, where prices dropped to USD 1.070/KG, a significant 12.2% decline. In Q4, the downward trend continued, with prices falling to USD 0.999/KG, down another 6.6%.

This shows a market that held up initially, then corrected strongly in the second half. The timing suggests that weaker demand or heavier competitive pressure became more visible later in the year. Once the decline began in Q3, the market did not find support quickly enough to stabilize in Q4.

South America's trend is notable because it combines early-year stability with late-year weakness. That kind of shift often indicates a change in procurement patterns or a sudden supply-demand imbalance. By year-end, the region had moved below the USD 1.00/KG mark, showing that the correction was substantial.

North America acrylic acid price trend in FY25

North America recorded the highest starting price among the listed regions, but it also experienced one of the steepest and most sustained declines. Prices began at USD 1.787/KG in Q1 2025. In Q2, they dropped to USD 1.637/KG, an 8.4% decline. That was already a notable correction.

The pressure intensified in Q3, where prices fell further to USD 1.389/KG, representing a sharp 15.2% quarter-on-quarter decline. In Q4, the market weakened again, slipping to USD 1.269/KG, down another 8.6%.

North America's trend points to a market under heavy pressure across the year. Unlike Southeast Asia, where the decline was gradual, North America saw larger and more aggressive corrections. The Q3 fall in particular suggests a major reset in market expectations or buying behavior.

Even after those declines, North America remained above some Asian and South American price levels in absolute terms, but the drop from Q1 to Q4 was severe. This reflects a market where suppliers likely faced weakening demand and strong resistance to higher pricing. The absence of any recovery quarter makes North America one of the clearest examples of bearish pricing in FY25.

Europe acrylic acid price trend in FY25

Europe was the only region that did not follow a straightforward downward pattern. Prices started at USD 1.269/KG in Q1 2025 and then rose to USD 1.357/KG in Q2, marking a 6.9% increase. That made Europe the only listed region to post a significant gain in the second quarter.

In Q3, prices eased slightly to USD 1.330/KG, a 2.0% decline. But unlike the other regions, Europe recovered in Q4, with prices rising again to USD 1.348/KG, up 1.3%.

This mixed movement suggests that Europe had more pricing support than the rest of the market. That support may have come from tighter local supply, firmer demand in selected downstream sectors, or a cost structure that limited aggressive price competition. Whatever the reason, Europe showed more resilience than the other regions in FY25.

It is also notable that Europe ended the year above its Q1 level. No other listed region did that. This makes Europe the relative outlier in the dataset and likely the healthiest acrylic acid market among the regions provided.

Comparing regional performance

A comparison across regions shows three broad groups.

Europe was the most resilient market, with gains in Q2 and Q4 and only a mild dip in Q3. Southeast Asia was weak but relatively orderly, with gradual price erosion across all quarters. Northeast Asia, South America, and North America all experienced more severe second-half declines, with North America and South America showing especially sharp falls.

By Q4 FY25, the regional price ranking looked very different from the beginning of the year. North America still remained among the higher-priced markets at USD 1.269/KG, but it had fallen sharply. Europe ended at USD 1.348/KG and stood out as the strongest-performing region. South America closed at USD 0.999/KG, Southeast Asia at USD 0.925/KG, and Northeast Asia at USD 0.874/KG.

This comparison shows that absolute price level and price direction are not the same thing. North America started from a high base but lost significant value. Europe maintained relative strength. Asia ended at lower price bands, reflecting stronger competitive pressure and weaker support.

Key factors influencing acrylic acid prices in FY25

The acrylic acid market in FY25 appears to have been shaped by several overlapping forces.

Demand weakness was clearly one of the biggest factors. Since acrylic acid feeds into coatings, adhesives, textiles, hygiene products, and polymers, any slowdown across those sectors can reduce buying interest quickly. The persistent declines in multiple regions suggest downstream demand was not strong enough to absorb available supply comfortably.

Competitive supply conditions also played a major role. The fact that prices fell across most regions points to a market where sellers had limited pricing power. Oversupply may not have been equally severe in all regions, but the overall tone suggests supply remained sufficient or heavy relative to demand.

Regional trade dynamics likely added to the pressure, especially in Asia. When major producing regions weaken, lower-priced material can influence sentiment and offers in neighboring markets as well.

Another important factor is feedstock cost, especially propylene. Acrylic acid pricing is closely tied to propylene movements because propylene is the main upstream input. When feedstock values soften, downstream producers may reduce offers. When feedstock costs rise, prices may gain support, but that support only holds if downstream demand is strong enough to absorb it.

FY26 outlook for the acrylic acid market

Based on the FY25 pattern and the market outlook provided, FY26 appears likely to be a year of cautious recovery rather than a sharp rebound. There are some supportive factors in place: possible cost-side support from propylene, stronger long-term demand prospects in Asia-Pacific, and growing interest in sustainable acrylic acid solutions.

At the same time, there are clear risks. The biggest is overcapacity. If new plants and expanded supply enter the market faster than demand recovers, pricing may stay competitive. That means even if volumes improve, margins and price recovery could remain limited.

Europe may continue to show better resilience if local conditions remain balanced. Asia-Pacific will be the most important region to watch because it combines both the strongest recovery potential and the greatest supply-side risk. North America and South America may need stronger downstream improvement before meaningful pricing support returns.
