When horses become teachers: Portapatet has been supporting executives since 2008
Lisberg, March 23, 2026. Portapatet is strengthening its position as an academy for leadership and personal development with a clear focus on horse-assisted training and coaching. The company has integrated this method into its executive and HR development offerings since 2008, relying on learning formats that combine personal experience, immediate feedback, and sustainable development. Based on the concept developed by EAHAE (European Association for Horse assisted Education).Learning with Direct Feedback: What Horse-Assisted Training Achieves in Leadership
Horse-assisted training complements traditional training and coaching approaches with an experiential perspective. The focus is on situations in which leaders and teams reflect on their own behavior in contact and interaction: How clear is the communication? How consistent are demeanor, inner attitude, and outward actions? How can guidance be provided--without pressure, but with presence?
Portapatet uses equine-assisted training and coaching as an integral part of modern development programs to support learning processes that take place not only cognitively but also through experience and perception. This creates a framework in which participants can observe and further develop their leadership behavior, their team role, and their personal impact in a concrete situation.
"Leadership is not only evident in concepts, but in behavior--and behavior becomes visible in the situation," says Dr. Ulrich Striebl of Portapatet. "Horse-assisted training creates a space for experience where clarity, presence, and communication can be immediately assessed."
Two core formats: training for leadership, teams, and personal development, as well as individual coaching
Portapatet describes two core services that cover a range of learning and development scenarios: horse-assisted training for leadership, teams, and personal development, as well as individual coaching--available either in person or virtually.
The horse-assisted training is designed for leaders, teams, and organizations that want to drive development not solely through theory, but through purposefully designed experiences. The training addresses specific issues from everyday leadership and work life and translates them into experiential exercises. The focus is on personalized learning opportunities: participants are given opportunities to consciously reflect on their communication, their teamwork, and their self-management, and to derive next steps.
Individual coaching complements the offering as a format for personal development, clarification, and targeted support in individual situations. Portapatet offers both in-person sessions and virtual coaching for this purpose. This allows leaders and employees to choose between face-to-face meetings and location-independent support, depending on the context and their needs.
"Development requires the right formats--sometimes in a team setting and experience-oriented, sometimes focused on one-on-one conversations," say Arite Schima and Dr. Ulrich Striebl. "Our offering combines both: training for leadership and collaboration, as well as coaching for individual concerns."
With the integration of horse-assisted elements established since 2008, Portapatet relies on a methodological approach geared toward experience, reflection, and transfer into everyday work--as a building block in contemporary leadership and personnel development programs.
