LeakCheck 1.0: Securely check passwords and email accounts for data leaks

ASCOMP has released LeakCheck 1.0. The new Windows software enables users to quickly and securely check their passwords and email addresses for known data leaks--without sensitive data leaving their own PC.

Data leaks affect millions of users worldwide. Whether it's large online services, social networks, or email providers, access data repeatedly falls into the hands of unauthorized persons. LeakCheck provides users with a simple, reliable tool to find out whether their accounts have been compromised and to react in time.

The software uses the HaveIBeenPwned Passwords API, one of the world's leading data sources for compromised access data with billions of entries. Thanks to integrated k-anonymity, the complete password is never transmitted - only an anonymized partial hash is used for comparison. This ensures that the check remains completely secure and compliant with data protection regulations.

The clear dashboard provides a quick overview of the current security status of all checked accounts. Detailed information on individual data leaks - including the affected service, when the leak became known, and a complete timeline - can be found in the "Email Addresses" section. This allows users to keep track of everything and take targeted action.

The Professional Edition of LeakCheck also offers automatic background monitoring. It continuously checks whether new data leaks affect the stored accounts and notifies the user immediately when a new leak is detected. "Data leaks happen every day - and most users find out about them far too late, if at all.
