ASIA'S YOUTH BASKETBALL SCENE SHAKEN! Over 60 Teams from 7

BANGKOK, THAILAND - The International Youth Basketball Championships 2026 (IYBC 2026) is experiencing an unprecedented surge in interest, with over 60 teams from across the globe registering shortly after applications opened.

Currently, the roster comprises 44 boys' teams and 16 girls' teams representing seven (7) nations: Guam (USA), Taiwan, Nepal, the Philippines, Macau (China), the United Arab Emirates, and Thailand. With registrations continuing to rise, the organizer predicts that the tournament will surpass 80 teams, marking a new historic record since the project's inauguration in 2023.

Tournament Highlights & Standards

Scheduled for July 24-28, 2026, at RIS Ruamrudee International School (main Minburi Campus), this marks the 4th consecutive year of the championships. The event is officially sanctioned by FIBA (The International Basketball Federation) and the Basketball Sport Association of Thailand (BSAT), ensuring international competition standards.

The tournament features seven (7) age divisions:
• Boys: Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18
• Girls: Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18

The Parent Group of Thai Youth Basketball Players, as the official organizer, projects total athlete participation to reach between 800 and 1,000 players throughout the tournament-further solidifying the event's position as one of the region's fastest-growing international youth basketball platforms.

Innovative Competitive Format

A key highlight this year is the introduction of a "Mini League" format for the U16 Boys and U18 Boys divisions, divided into the Diamond League and Platinum League. This structure categorizes teams based on their competitive standards and skill levels, ensuring balanced, high-quality matchups while minimizing disparities and competitive imbalances between opponents.

Economic Impact & Sport Tourism

Ms. Chupit Chutitum, Senior Executive Director of the Parent Group of Thai Youth Basketball Players stated that the significant increase in participating international teams and their entourages underscores growing global confidence in Thailand's capability to successfully host premier youth sporting events.

"This growth extends beyond the sport itself-it delivers meaningful economic impact," Ms. Chupit said. "From hotels and transportation to restaurants and service industries, the tournament generates substantial revenue circulation, directly supporting the government's Sport Tourism policy."

In response to the overwhelming interest, the organizing committee of IYBC 2026 is currently evaluating an expansion beyond the original five-court plan to ensure optimal scheduling efficiency and to accommodate the growing number of matches.
