Commenting on the report, an analyst from Reports team said: “High-performance electric motorcycles saw the adoption of direct drive in recent past, and this led to the adoption of automatic transmission. However, with the adoption of these systems the rider loses the experience of motorcycle riding as shifting gear is one of the key differentiators. In addition, electric motorcycles are bound by mile range, creating a barrier to their adoption. However, Suzuki can solve the above problems through its latest development. The company filed a patent for the development of a hybrid motorcycle that uses semi-automatic transmission in Japan in 2015.

According to the report, semi-automatic motorcycles are comparatively easy to ride as the riders need not engage the clutch while shifting gears. The adoption of motorcycles by first timers (baby boomers and female riders) is increasing in developed regions like North America. The motorcycle market in North America is largely driven by baby boomers, as these individuals prefer motorcycle for long distance travels, leisure, and as a hobby to enjoy the life after retirement. The category of individuals has real buying power compared with younger individuals as their basic needs are already met, and they show increased inclination toward personal experiences rather than on materials. For instance, 32% of the individuals in the US are baby boomers, and individuals aged over 50 years control 77% of the total net worth of country.

Further, the report states that the technologies are the added benefits to the riders, and they cannot be used as the substitute for training. For instance, clutch-less motorcycles allow riders to operate gears without engaging the clutch, and reduces difficulties for first timers or re-entry riders. However, this does not mean that unskilled rider can ride safely. For instance, behaviors like speeding, tailgating, and aggressive riding work against the benefits of clutch-less systems. In addition, clutch-less motorcycles are in less control than motorcycles with manual transmission, which affects the reliability of the motorcycle. Therefore, the rider must take extra care to monitor the speed of the motorcycle. The need of skilled riding cannot be substituted by the availability of the new technology for safety quotient.
