Four recurring lessons in marketing, AI, geofencing and business development.

Houston, TX - March 02, 2026 - As marketers across the country celebrate National Marketing Day on March 20, JAM Idea Agency is celebrating a milestone of its own. The Houston-based firm turns four on March 21 and is using the moment to reflect on what it has learned about marketing and AI for the built environment and professional services.

"National Marketing Day recognizes the impact marketing has on real businesses, not just on clicks and likes," said Lori Grubbs, CPSM, Principal at JAM Idea Agency. "We built JAM so our clients get honest insight, original ideas, and a partner who is invested in seeing those ideas turn into real results."

Founded by principals Lori Grubbs, CPSM and Kristin Lynn Kautz, FSMPS, CPSM, JAM was built to be the kind of consultancy they always wished they had: direct, strategic, creatively sharp, and steady in complex environments, translating vision into clear, actionable plans that drive measurable growth and sustainable success.

Over the past four years, JAM's work in marketing, AI, geofencing, and business development support has revealed four recurring lessons:

1. Marketing must match how the firm really works.
The campaigns that perform best are built around real operations: staffing, project delivery, and client experience. When marketing is aligned with how the firm serves its clients, it delivers better results.
2. AI adoption succeeds when it is treated as a leadership and operational shift, not a tool rollout.
Firms move forward when leadership aligns AI with business strategy, establishes governance and guardrails, makes training a priority, ties it to real use cases that improve performance, and creates structured implementation with clear accountability. People resist uncertainty, and when you reduce that uncertainty with clarity and structure, return on investment (and your culture) accelerates.
3. Specific beats loud.
Geofencing around events, focusing on a niche audience, or tailoring campaigns to a defined client type consistently outperforms broad, generic outreach. The goal is not to promote and advertise everywhere; it is to be in the right places with the right message at the right time to the right audience.
4. Content must be readable by people and machines.
Websites, thought leadership, social posts, and case studies now need to serve both human readers and AI search. Structuring content for AI-driven discovery is no longer optional for firms that want to be found and trusted.

"Clients are trying to balance a lot right now: marketing, proposals, recruiting, retention, client care, design deliverables, and now AI on top of all of it," said Kristin Lynn Kautz, FSMPS, CPSM, Principal at JAM Idea Agency. "Our role is to bring them fresh ideas, a clear plan, and enough support that the work feels energizing instead of overwhelming."

Since its launch, JAM has expanded its services to include AI strategy and training for AEC and professional services firms and its Idea Tools product line of planners, cards, and GPTs that help teams turn strategy into daily action.

"As we celebrate four years of JAM, we're grateful for the clients who trust us with their stories and their goals," Grubbs added. "The next chapter is about helping even more teams use marketing and AI in ways that feel genuine, smart, and surprisingly fun."
