DQS Receives ANAB Accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001 AI Management System Certification

Frankfurt/Chicago, 26 February 2026 - DQS has been accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to provide certification services for ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS).

With this accreditation, DQS is authorized to issue ISO/IEC 42001 certificates under ANAB accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021 requirements for management system certification bodies. The accreditation expands DQS's portfolio of accredited management system certifications in the field of information security and emerging technologies, further reinforcing its early commitment to ISO/IEC 42001 since its initial release.

ISO/IEC 42001 is the first internationally recognized management system standard specifically developed for Artificial Intelligence. It defines requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AI Management System.

The accreditation comes as regulatory frameworks for Artificial Intelligence continue to evolve worldwide. The EU AI Act, which entered into force in 2024, introduces phased compliance obligations for organizations developing or deploying AI systems. Comparable regulatory initiatives are under discussion or implementation in other regions.

International Recognition Through ANAB

ANAB accreditation confirms that DQS operates its ISO/IEC 42001 certification program based on defined accreditation criteria for competence, impartiality, and consistent auditing practices.

ANAB is a U.S.-based accreditation body and a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). Certificates issued under ANAB accreditation are internationally recognized within the IAF multilateral recognition framework.

For organizations, accredited certification provides independent third-party verification that their AI Management System conforms to ISO/IEC 42001 requirements.

ISO/IEC 42001 in Regulatory Context

ISO/IEC 42001 provides a structured framework for addressing governance, risk management, and operational controls related to AI systems across their lifecycle.

The standard includes requirements for:
• Risk identification and assessment
• Human oversight mechanisms
• Data governance and quality management
• Monitoring and continual improvement

Built on the harmonized structure of ISO management system standards, ISO/IEC 42001 can be integrated with existing management systems such as ISO/IEC 27001. In the context of regulatory developments such as the EU AI Act, the standard offers a management system approach to implementing documented processes, responsibilities, and control mechanisms relevant to AI governance.
