Meskernel Introduces LDJU High-Speed Laser Distance Sensor

Meskernel has announced the release of the LDJU high-speed laser distance sensor, (https://meskernel.net/en/product/laser-sensor-for-distance-measurement/),a compact and precision-oriented ranging module designed for industrial automation, real-time control systems, and high-speed measurement applications.

The LDJU sensor is based on indirect Time-of-Flight (iToF) phase-difference laser ranging technology (https://meskernel.net/en/time-of-flight-ranging/), enabling millimeter-level accuracy while maintaining high measurement stability under varying signal conditions. Unlike traditional direct ToF solutions, the iToF-based design significantly reduces hardware timing constraints and offers improved resolution for short- and medium-range distance measurement tasks.

The LDJU supports continuous measurement frequencies from 100 Hz up to 10 kHz, making it suitable for applications requiring fast feedback loops, such as motion control, displacement monitoring, industrial robotics, and dynamic positioning systems. The module automatically adapts its measurement speed based on signal strength, prioritizing speed under strong signal conditions and accuracy when signal strength decreases.

With a measurement range of 0.2 m to 30 m and an accuracy of ±(3 mm + D × 1/10000), the LDJU delivers reliable performance across a wide range of target reflectivities. Measurement resolution reaches 1 mm, and typical response times can be as short as 200 microseconds under optimal conditions.

The sensor operates at a wavelength range of 610-690 nm and is available in CLASS II or CLASS 3B laser configurations, depending on system requirements. It supports TTL (3.3 V) communication and can be integrated with USB, USART, RS232, or RS485 interfaces using external level conversion modules. The default communication baud rate is 1 Mbps, with customizable options available for specific integration needs.

Designed for industrial environments, the LDJU operates within a working temperature range of 0°C to 40°C, with extended temperature versions available upon request. The module is powered by a 5 V DC supply and is engineered to support high-speed continuous operation with stable current management.

In addition to core ranging functionality, the LDJU provides a comprehensive ASCII-based command protocol with MODBUS CRC16 verification, enabling system integrators to access device status, control laser operation, apply distance offset calibration, retrieve hardware and software version information, and perform system resets. Firmware upgrades are supported via an IAP (In-Application Programming) mechanism through the USART interface.
