Yuvraj Mavi's Basketball Journey: Passion to purpose

Yuvraj Mavi, a Grade 12 student enrolled in the International Baccalaureate programme, has shared an inseparable bond with basketball since early childhood. What began as playful curiosity in kindergarten-throwing any ball-shaped object toward a hoop he could barely reach-gradually evolved into a defining passion that shaped both his personal growth and sense of purpose.
As Yuvraj progressed through school, he formally joined the school basketball team. His first competitive match offered him only four minutes on the court, a moment that could have discouraged many. Instead, it became a turning point. Motivated to improve, Yuvraj committed himself to rigorous training, discipline, and continuous learning. His perseverance paid off as he steadily earned more playing time, recognition, and eventually, a leadership role within the team.
Yuvraj's dedication and ability to unite teammates led to his appointment as team captain. Under his leadership, the team reached remarkable milestones-winning first place at the TAISI National Championships, securing the runners-up position at the ISSO Nationals, and representing India at the United World Games. Yuvraj captained the team at every level, gaining valuable national and international exposure while strengthening his belief in the power of sport to build character, confidence, and community.
Inspired by the transformative role basketball played in his own life, Yuvraj felt compelled to give back. This sense of responsibility took shape as BallForAll, a grassroots initiative aimed at providing underprivileged children with access to sports. The idea was born in his village, where Yuvraj observed children playing with makeshift equipment-using pots, plates, and broken objects in place of proper sports gear.
With support from friends, family, Harvard Pre-School, and his wider school community, Yuvraj turned this idea into action. Through structured fundraising efforts, he successfully raised over ₹100,000 to support the initiative. These funds were used to build basketball courts in six schools, distribute essential sports equipment such as basketballs, hoops, and shoes, and provide structured training to more than 200 children.
Beyond infrastructure and equipment, Yuvraj focused on creating opportunity and exposure. Through BallForAll, he has hosted more than five local tournaments, giving young players their first experience of organized competition and teamwork. To ensure long-term sustainability, Yuvraj also launched an e-commerce platform selling pre-loved goods, reinvesting all proceeds back into the initiative.
As he prepares to begin his college journey, Yuvraj remains deeply committed to expanding BallForAll. His vision is simple yet powerful-to inspire others to contribute and to ensure that access to sport is never limited by circumstance. Through basketball, Yuvraj Mavi has not only built a personal legacy of excellence but has also created a pathway of opportunity for countless young lives.
