Press release from: ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH

/ PR Agency: ETLog Health Marketing
Berlin/Dhaka: Commencing April 2008, ETLog Health GmbH is providing technical assistance in solid waste management to the urban primary health care sector in Bangladesh. The project is being implemented over the next 8 months and is being carried out by a consortium of: Aus Health International Pty Ltd (Australia) and ADSL (Bangladesh) - on behalf of the Asian Development Bank [ADB].

Bangladesh joined the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1973 and became one of the largest borrowers of concessionary Asian Development Fund resources. As of 31 December 2006, cumulative public sector lending to Bangladesh amounted to about $ 8.3 billion for 176 loans and technical assistance grants amounted to $ 170.95 million for 318 projects. These have supported all key sectors, including energy, transport, social infrastructure, and agriculture and natural resources [Source: ADB].

Within the “Bangladesh: Preparing the Urban Primary Health Care Sector” project, the main tasks of ETLog Health are to:
Study one large municipal town to assess the financial and institutional dimensions of solid waste management in built-up areas;
Recommend an optimal strategy for private sector participation and prepare bidding documents for soliciting such participation in solid waste activities;
Determine an appropriate institutional, commercialisation or corporatisation strategy to improve solid waste management in the project area and conduct a financial analysis of the systems for sweeping, collection, transport and disposal of waste, taking into account operating and maintenance costs in the target areas.
