On December 24, 2020, the second council meeting of the National Engineering Laboratory for Key Technologies in Birth Defect Prevention was held in Beijing, followed by the first expert committee meeting the next day. The event brought together leading figures in maternal and child health, including Wang Qiaomei from the National Health Commission, Academician Qiang Boqin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Huang Hefeng, and Academician Qiao Jie of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Following a comprehensive evaluation of its research foundation, scientific achievements, team capabilities, and innovation goals, SINOFN was officially designated as a sub-center of the National Engineering Laboratory.
